Easy Bud Germination

So I bought a pack of 3 Easy Buds last year around August I planted one last year anyway I did that the paper towel method for germination and sat it in the bag onto of my router to keep it warm, it worked, it popped i planted it and so on.

Anyway this time, done the same paper towel method 2 days ago, by now the last one was well popped and the tap root had some length and strength to t this time, 2 days later and it's just stared to crack down the middle of one side. I think I got a dud bean or its been sitting in my dark drawer in a jiffy bag to long or what? Anyway, I have now placed the seed in the soil in my medium for the final grow, since it's an auto I'm doing it from start to finish in the same big pot about 4 liters or something anyway big enough for an auto dwarf anyway. So I placedthe seed about 1 quarter of an inch maybe a half inch down in he soil covered it up just lightly and put the pot away in a dark cupboard for a few days, see what happens.

Do you think it will complete the germination process in the soil? Do you think this will even have a chance or does it sound like my bean is dead?

Guess your guess is as good as mine and time will tell?

Thanks in advance for any feedback and or tips.

It is most likely that over the course of the year that your previously fresh seed has dried out some. The delay you noticed in germination was probably due to the need for additional moisture to penetrate the seed pod and trigger the germination process.

Without light your bean is not getting the nutrients it needs to go on its search for light and breach the soil. By leaving in in the moist soil medium in the dark you're risking the chance of having your seed rot.

Seeds that germinate and start to grow without adequate light will become tall and leggy as they are trying to search or 'stretch' for light.

So germinating seeds in a dark place like most info on the net suggests is wrong?

Should I just take the pot out of the cupboard then and straight to lights even though its only just started to crack the tiniest bit?

The seed is still in darkness under the soil. A dark moist place is recommended when trying to develop a taproot. Than after the taproot is visible placing it into the soil medium then directly under lights is what recommended.

Just after I posted my last post I just thought of that it is in darkness in the soil now so I need to provide the light now so it can develop and head towards it rite? OK So to the lights then?

That's exactly correct. It doesn't need to be anything extreme. A few 25 watt daylight CFL's will provide enough light energy for the seedling.

K its now under the lights just 2 little cfl's 30W each about 3000 Lumes total between them and one is warm white (2700K) the other is same.

If you added just one more light you would have a optimal amount. You want to shoot for 10,000 Lumens per square foot (or a plant). Id give it 10 days max before you had a sprout.

Bearing in mind it's a Dwarf auto, would this mean optimal levels are slightly less or no, don't work like that?

Also should I keep the lights on the soil 24 hours a day until it breaches the soil or what?

Seeds I get I put in the freezer so they will not dry out and they will germinate. Its a mistake most growers have made. But if it is cracking open it may be fine. Ive had them take 7-10 days before and have them pop. Don't give up.
