Easy way to drain your tub

Here's an easy way to drain your tub/rez for those weekly nute changes.

Add a 1/2" "T" to the water pump discharge. From the "T", run the 1/2" tubing to the distribution hub and then from the other side of the "T", run the 1/2" tubing through a hole as close to the top of the tub/rez as possible. With the 1/2" tubing sticking out the top side of the tub/rez, connect a 1/2" ball valve (with 1/2" nipples of both side of the ball valve) to the 1/2" tubing. Then connect a lenght of 1/2" tubing to the disharge side of the ball valve. This will allow you to fill one gallon jugs via the tubs water pump.

So you now can drain your tub/rez without even lifting the lid to the tub/rez.

Gonna have to come back and read this later when I am not on cloud 9...I like this idea. Would you just reach inside the res to wipe it down?

Yes, you could reach inside & wipe the rez.

I did this mod because I give my nutes to a friend, who uses them in their veggie garden, and I transport them via one gallon jugs.

It's really nice just to be able to turn the ball valve on & off until the tub is drained. Then I unplug the water pump until I refill the tub.

I just use the drain in the side of my res. Run a hose out in the hallway and open the valve and drain into a bucket! I didn't think you'd have to wipe the sides of the tank!? So far so good! I'll do my third change today..I've also heard of people using a shop vac ! Wonder if that would suck up your roots too !!?

I would be scared to use a shop vac, too much power. I always rinse my res and the wipe it down with a clean terry cloth towel. It gets the salts and left over nutes out of the reservoir and I always, ever water change, soak my flexible air tubes in vinegar, rinse them, and put them back in the res.
