i'm using a 400w switchable ballast(4yrs now)and the buzzing seems to have gotten louder with time, i was wondering which part/s are going bad and if their replaceable? thanks, Armand

Hey guys I'm making a new lighting board that will have four 65/500 watt cfl that are normally used for outside as flood lights. They have simple wiring, just black wire and white (Hot/Neutral) but they do have there own built in ballast. So to my question, can I just pig tail each one to the other and have only one plug for all four of the units or could this be dangerous?

I know that I can just run a standard plug for each one but I would rather have one plug and not four.

Sure ,you only have 260 watts total, just run them in parallel , should be fine.

i have a little delema... i am planning on putting together a small growopps. 6 x 600watt mh/hps lights in a12 x 12 room. i will need to power all lights, humidifier (live in a dry climate 20%rh), exaust, filters, ect... i really need an alternitive to power this room! i dont want to put this little hut in jepordy of jonny law...

Have natural gas plumbed to the house? If so, get a standby generator and have it run the room. A separate generator is really your only choice. Solar won't do it (though the tax credit might be nice depending on what state you are in) Wind might, but a huge expense. $2-4K for the generator and then just the gas usage. 5Kw sounds about right.

i tried to do the math and propane seemed to do $15.00 a day.( unless my math is wrong??)

did a little more research and found my gas bill would be a the same as electric. i would use propane instead because i wouldnt want my project to be tracked from the gas company. i just need to figure out how long these generators can run. ill let everoneone know how much this actually costs and works when i finish...

Need an electrician to answer some question for a friend who doesn't dare go on line to ask. Power went out 1st time in the whole house and 200 amps main breakers and other sub-breakers did not jumped. Call hydro, they change fuse outside (?) and power was on again. Lights (14 -1000w) was on and ran for 12 hours, than power went out 2nd time. Called hydro, they change fuse again. Power was on again. Lights went back on. Power went out 3rd time. Called hydro, they said they won't do anything until an electrician check the house out. The house was cleaned and an electrician was hired to check the house. Electrician did not understand why breaker did not jump(200 amp breakers or other sub breakers). He checked everything and said the house was fine and that all electricial wire and panel was perfectly fine. Electrician called hydro and said that there is nothing wrong with house's electrical panel or electricity wiring. Hydro decides to change the transformer to a new 10kva transformer and reconnect the power. What my friend wants to know is how many 1000w bulb can he used now with the new 10kva transformer? Why did none of the breakers jumped? Electrician said that if the house draws over the 200amps then the 200amp breakers would've jumped. So he doesn't understand why it did not jumped and power went out? Hydro and him thinks that the transformer was faulty. Please answer asap. Thanks!

The size of the trans. doesn't matter. he still has a 200 amp service. The faulty trans probably caused failure, like hydro said. it should be OK with new trans. As for how many 1000 watt fixtures figure that one(1) plus ancillaries(fans etc.) use a 15 amp circuit..
