Experience with Topicals?

Hey all,

I'm a grower and workout enthusiast with frequent headaches and muscle pains. What are your experiences with applying topicals? I have some homemade bees wax lotion and more than enough concentrate to mix together into a salve, but I don't know if its worth it having never tried to absorb a drug transdermally. I also have no idea how much concentrate it will take to make it work, how much to apply, or what effects I can expect or how long it would take to work. Any input is appreciated!

The headaches are caused by very tight muscles in my temples/jaw due to bruxism. I have a guard to protect teeth at night but I clench hard and the muscles are constantly tender - Doctor recommendation was botox, which I'd like to avoid. Just looking for a little relief in those areas that can help out in addition to massages.

Other muscles are just sore because they're getting worked alot - mainly in the lower back because I have an 80 pound arthritic dog who needs to be carried up and down the stairs 4 times a day.
