i dont want to sound like an asshole here but i really only want help from people that have done this, or have been with someone while they were doing this.

ok now for my question.

Well i got this 400watt hps flood light, go ahead and call me an idiot but i got it and i cant return it. So what im trying to do is, i want to remove the electrical components(relay, capacitor, etc..) away from the light and ballast. Right now its in this huge heavy ass metal or steel enclosure with a window in the front. the whole thing probably weighs like 25lbs! so my question is has anybody done this? what is the best route to go? should i make a new metal enclosure for the electrical, then just hang the ballast where i need it, or should i build a hood for the ballast to stick it in then hang it? well thanks for whatever help you can give me.

Chill bro..
Pictures of the light would be great!!! ;D
However, Ill give you a feeler reply.!!
I have been growing for years an years!

This is so easy a cop could do this an be safe about it!!!!!!
hahaha
You'll be fine if it is a true HID hps.
Personally, I like the MH 400w'ers but you'll be fine..

OK,
Take a picture of the layout of the wires an ballast in side of the light.
Take the light apart - ( Ballast, lamp an other goodies out. )
Now,mentally remember how large of an area the Ballist/an wirestake up..
Grab your self a small metal tool box. an a small roll of 400 watt wire..
I would use Wal-mart, I have before an you save a few penny's ,plus its open 24-7.
If you want, Grab your self a small CPU fan,To place in the side or top of toolbox.
To help vent the heat that the Ballast makes..
It can create a descent bit of heat!
Trust me, its worth the few bucks...
An you don't wanna lose your grow because of fire... ;P
An or lose of house, town home or apt.

Drill holes to also help venting an to run the wires out.
Its easy to extend the wires to OR from toolbox..
Twist the wires tightly, used electric tape when you join the wires together.
Thats basically it man.. Any more help with this you can PM me.

Good luck with you home grow..
Be quite about it..
DO NOT TELL ANYONE
..
Only the ones who you live with ..

Ive seen it so many times..
A guy tell his g/f about his grow, she'll tell everyone..
Or
The guy an girl breakup an she' tells the cops about the grow..
Im not saying this is your case.. just keep that in mind...

If need be mark the wires and their corresponding terminals with markers of differing color. Sometimes wires in an assembly can come unmarked and all the same color tubing. If you have the time and energy you could always solder wire splices together for better connections at splices then cover them with heat-shrink splice tubing and a little electrical tape.

one thing i did that can save you having to buy a tool box for the electronics is just use the casing that it came. Then just run your wires from it to the socket/reflector. Everythings already attached in it anyways, you just have to remove the socket and add an extension between it and the box.

i was thinking that malice, but sense it is in such a small area, i think that is partly why it is producing so much heat, i was thinking of taking it to work and cutting a bunch of small holes in it.

anyways whats up with fiberglass? i just found the perfect box, its solid fiberglass and has 4 threaded inserts in the bottom, 1 says it is a ground.

i am worried becuase, i know that theres a chance that if wired wrong, i just put a huge bomb in my house with me. i mean if i were to fuck up the wires on the capicator alone i would be fuck. :(

sorry, i didn't clarify. IF you can, leave the housing outside the grow arera and run the extension between it and the reflector into the grow area, then you dont have to worry about the box adding additional heat.
I wouldnt use fiberglass .........i dont know whether it would melt or not......but i wouldnt take the chance.
p.s. it's also a good idea that when you run your extension from the box to the reflector (whichever style box you use) to have a ground going from the reflector to the box
