I have been reading a lot lately on growing and I just wondered if someone could give me a few under the radar tips or anything. In NO WAY am I actually trying to grow to sell, just for fun/personal use.

My set-up (ridiculously unprofessional):
One plant that I have sprouting up, only a few days old. I'm going with soil because it seems to be so much less of a hassle and less money. I got the soil from a friend who is also growing but a little bit more serious about it. She gave me the soil and also some moss to retain moisture..the only thing i'm really lacking is the lights.. Even though it's December here in texas it's still warm and sunny enough to keep outside. My closet has a regular light in it but for some reason it's different than every other light in the apartment..it actually gives out pretty bright light and a shit ton of heat...i'm thinking the dude that lived here before me might have tried the same thing...lol

I have 7 seeds germinating right now and plan on getting those into soil soon as well.. My friend didn't give me an abundance of soil or pots so i need to go buy the right kind (suggestioins). What is the cheapest light that i can get??

I will have pictures when the sproutling gets bigger

yes, you'll find the lights at wallmart. if not at wallmart, you'll find the splitter at home depot.

cfl is a compact fluorescent bulb - the kind with the standard screw in base and a spiral bulb.

a y splitter screws into your ceiling socket and has two female ends to screw two lights into

That bulb wont work but the y splitter and two cfls will work ! Post pick when you get the bulbs ! Put the plant in the window till then.
