it looks like you are doing exactly how i do it except i'm in hempy buckets.

are those rapid rooters to start the seeds?

did you wash the growstones as per the directions on the bag?

Hey.

Yup, washed the hell out of them. But they still give off residue. I literally sat there with the hose on jet, dumping bucket to bucket, for 30 minutes. The stones are weird, I'm still getting used to them.

Yes I'm using rooter plugs because the setup is really easy, but they are a pain in the ass also. They hold lots of water vs the rocks holding hardly any.

mine are 4 years old and they still give off a small amount every time i wash them.

i would bury the RR into the growstones so just the top is showing. if you start getting roots out the sides, they will die if exposed to the lights and air.

and if you want to know my secret for 99% germ rate with RR's, pick up an aerogarden unit (by scotts/miracle gro now) without a light if you can since you already have a light. pop the seed in, cover them so they are dark and in about 1 to 2 days the seed will pop. take the cover off and they will start growing towards the light. in about 2.5 weeks, they will be decent sized and have a great set of roots. pop that into the growstones and boom! i use RO water with 1mL of DynaGro Foliage Pro from day 1 in the aerogarden even before the seed germs.

I am so pathetic. I don't understand, I'm caring for these damn things, and they just keep in dying.

these are just babies a few days old. I hadn't even turned the water in the system on yet. Just lightly sprayed them.

They are all dead, one is hanging on for dear life. Sprouted couple small leafs last night. But the stem is gross looking (brownish)

My light is exactly 3.5' away. I've read plenty of people throwing seedlings right in after germ, under HID, led, didn't think it made a difference.

So I'm down to 4 new seeds I haven't touched yet.

I Think when there was no sun present for 2 days of germing, they started looking bad then, I don't think my lights did anything. They just couldn't revive them.

So, weather here is going to be shit for last least a week. No sun, lots of rain.

Should I just get a t-5 setup going for germinating?

Thanks
I wish I could tell you what's going on but I have no clue. Do you have pics of them getting progressively worse? My seedlings have been in pretty much cloud since they popped and are doing ok, they are outdoor plants so they were put out right after popping. I still say that you can start them under HID if kept far enough away and 3' should be fine but it's a waste of energy is all.

I'm no botanist, that's a fact. I've had the same shitty results with my grass and all outdoor plants.

I'm starting my last 4 available right now. More pictures this round, I'm putting them in the plugs, in the grow pod. Under my new cfl's.

I'll upload a pic as soon as I get them in there, I need to find a good height for those new lights. I'll have 4 in germ pod, and 1 growing in rocks.

I have always put mine, 54w HO 48" x 4 at about 12"" but I'm sure you could go higher just watch the stretch. And just to reiterate, I'm just relaying what seems to work for me and my set up, and what doesn't work lol. I have been growing since my first field grow at 14 and still know shit lol. As for the rooters, I put one layer of rocks down, then I fill up till the top of the cube and then gently put enough to just cover the cube. As the plant stretches out I will add a few more rocks ontop but if I leave the top uncover I get green algae on the cube. I PH the water to 5.7-8 and like I said I add very lite nutes .2ish and they seem to do ok. It was the water cycles that I struggled with for a bit and also the temps. I'll grab a few of my older pics and show you what death looks like lol.

IMG_0080.JPG This girl is actually starting to recover after I lowered the temps, insulated the cover and started using double strength hydroguard ( read the instructions wrong lol) and then same time frame plant but dialled in from start IMG_0956.JPG

Ya I've tried a few different pond, aquarium and fountain benies. I would love to do a side by with a few and see if there are any differences. This is the first run with a dedicated chiller to keep it at 66 while allowing the actual room maintain 75-80 at times. The roots are doing really well from what I can see, which is not much lol. I did try some myco madness but it turned everything black so I dumped it and now add nothing :). The color has just started to go back to white :(.

weren't you saying that hydroguard is not available in CA anymore? if so, why?

that chiller should work out great for you.

Seedlings can run on straight PH'd water for at least a couple of weeks. When I do the rez I cut the fertilizer (NPK) to 1/6 per gallon of water for what the label recommends per gallon of water for out side soil growth. A basic rule of thumb. In hydro the water from natural sources such as tap, well etc already have a lot of plant food in it already. All these additives are not really necessary. With seedlings I'd change the rez about every seven days, no more than ten and top up with fresh water daily. As they go into bud change the rez out every 4-7 days depending on how much fresh water has to be added to the rez daily. Everyone will have to excuse me on some things as I've never grown just one plant.

^^^^^ I pretty much the same re water changes but I never add back so I'm about 5 days in peak flower before water level gets close to being to low. I've never had any issues with adding to .2 EC and my plants love it but yes water make up plays a part, but at .2 they show no signes of burning

Well that's cool lol. Gotta keep posting this grow, it's got my attention :). I have all the shit to do a "way" smaller one, pump, exp. tank, etc. but I'm thinking I have enough to deal with ATM. On a time line how much faster would aero be to achieve same yield? For instance I veg for 21 days now, running mist would the same plant be 1/3 bigger?

Hey hey. So I'm trying to just be patient while the baby is under the t-12s.

It's been 3 days in the humidity dome. One or two are popping out. Should I remove the cover and stick them under the t-12s with the other baby?

Thanks!

Patience is key. Despite the completely unexpected, rainy, 55-65 degree weather. (When it should be 75-85). I just let them be. They are doing great in the dome. Haven't watered, cubes are still moist looking. Humidity looks ok in the dome, but not great. So occasionally, I was taking a damp rag, and microwaving it and placing it with another dry rag, under the dome to boost humidity.

I will be buying a seed germ dome (real one). With small lights, or warmers or whatever. Just to take any guess work out of what I'm doing now.

the one baby under the cfls is doing well.
