fim (fuck i missed) during approx. 5th week of veg growth at the top of the plant where new growth forms you are to clip off about 1/3 of the leafy bud the idea is to make the plant brach off into more than one top colar and it also keeps the plant more busy instead of the christmas tree look. the best book i have found for marijuana growing that covers all topping and training techniques is the CANNIBIS GROW BIBLE when used with this site it is invaluable info to have...

here is and exapmle of a topped plant as opposed to a normal growing one both are same age and have been cared for the same aswell i didnt fim i topped by removing the center growth completely after week 5 of veg here they r plat on the left is the topped one..

Standox pretty much covered it but i think the crucial differance between regular topping and fimming is that with fimming you come away with 3+ top buds where as with topping generally you only get 2 top buds.

The way you fim, just to clarify, is to take off only a small clipping leaving a miny upside down pyramid shape to the top bud which should cause multi branching from that point, creating many new heads.
Hope this has been useful

yes i got off track didnt i lol i was preaching topping instead lol but yea fim is to remove 1/3 of the bud and topping is to shear it completelyoff at the stem i like topping becaause you can multiply colas as much as you want granted its within this specific strains genetics to do so. i have had an indica with 6 heads after topping a few times.
