I see about everything thats essential except for fertilizer if you choose to use it that is, other then that everything is fine.

probably want a ppm meter if you're going to do nutes. but depending on soil choice, you may or may not need to

ppm meter is for measuring the dissolved solids in parts per million in a given liquid. if you're using reverse osmosis water, it should be 0ppm, distilled and tap will be in the several hundred ppm's or so. if you're using liquid nutrients, you can gauge how strong your nutrient mix is with the ppm meter. and you can also test the runoff water and get an idea of what's coming out of the soil

is it absolutly nessesarry or will simply using ph adjusted water ( after adding nutes) be fine? I was planning on starting with say 1/3 a dose of nutes then work my way up....

yeah, you'll be fine without it. but you'll probably either end up wanting one or needing one down the road. i got mine off of amazon for like $15-20, so it's not a big ticket item

thanks, any advice on how to cut the 4 inch holes needed for the filter/fan? Also any advice on how to keep out light both from where the ducting exits the box, and from where the power cord exits the box? I was thinking getting some pvc pieced and assembling them in a sort of zig zag....what do you think?

any pics of your cab? i'd use either a sawzall or dremel (depending on how thick the cabinet wood is) to cut the holes. for light sealing, google 'diy light trap' and you can make one yourself. for the exhaust, if you're using a carbon filter (either bought or diy'ed) that should be enough to light proof it. as for the power cord..duct tape?
