First COB grow with various strains help

Hello all and thanks for checking out my post. I've finally been able to get all the supplies I need in order to begin my first official grow(excluding my high school experiments years and years back) and have some questions based off of my setup. I have a lot of experience in mycology and thought id give my green thumb a try again. As with my mushroom set ups, I want to make sure I do this grow properly and with the best supplies and genetics I can get or prefer. So here are the basics on what ill be using
Lights: 400 watt vero29 V7 framework from Timber 3500k(used for full cycle)
Strains: Super Lemon Haze(favorite), Chocolope, OG#18, Jack the Ripper, NL#5xHaze and Tangie. (im more of a sativa kinda guy)
Tent:4x4
Soil: FFOF-5 gallon pots for flowering
Nutes: FF trio and Recharge
And of course 6 inch inline fan and filter, fans ducting blah blah blah...

As a result of me absolutely wanting to have a variety of strains, I know Ill have my hands tied when it comes to maintaining an even canopy, if at all even possible lol. Ill primarily be running sativas but have that OG#18 in there to help level the playing field a bit. So heres where some of my questions come in. With so many different strains, what do you think I can do to help even the canopy out a bit? Lst, trellis nets, topping, a combination??

4 of the 6 strains are feminized and 2 of them are reg, so ill be having hopefully 4-6 plants. The amount of lighting I have should be enough for a 3.5x3.5 so I wont quit be filling the tent, but also want to add a red flowering light just to get the wattage up a bit. Im thinking of vegging for 3-4 weeks but I am open to suggestions of course on changing the time.

So what do you guys think? How can I maintain all of these different strains in one tent? What supplemental lighting can I possible add to get my wattage up a bit for flowering without murdering my wallet? Do you think 5 gallon pots are gonna be what I need? Any other recs on nutes? Is this too many plants for the veg time im planning? Lemme know if you guys have any tips or suggestions you can throw my way!

It's more than doable.I run multi strain scrogs with a single light. But you have to have some work ethic. Lst, nets, topping and super crop. you'll need all of those tools to make her run right. I'm sure if you devot the time you will be just fine.

I don't mind putting in the work to make sure my girls come out right. Just wanna make sure I do it properly so I can grt top quality from this. Time is going to be somewhat of an issue, so I think a smallerveg time like around 3 weeks will be better for me. That also limits what kind of training I can do with them though right? What would you recommend for a 3 week veg with 4-6 plants?

Yeah that timing of veg @ 3 weeks is really more of a Sog style run.

Check out mainlining on growweedeasy, but you need lik 6-8 weeks veg time. To even out the canopy, you can put something under the pots, or stack pots (with earth). If it's your first grow, I would recommand starting easy, and not doing alot of training (flip them when they are above 1'). Learn what you need to change your own, than following blind some tutorials. Rather you will get some good experience, than a perferct first grow.

If you're going to veg for only 3 weeks you likely won't need to scrog.

Also, your concern about canopy height is something you should not be worried about right now. Your concern should be about whether or not all these strains will require different nute strengths or not. If the strains have different sensitivities to nutes you'll have to mix several different batches every watering, and that's going to suck.

Anyway... it's your first grow then don't worry about the little details. Get the girls going...watch and learn... and get them to harvest. Then start dialling in with details.

Better to do one strain at a time when start out.

I think I'm gonna try fimming some of the sativas like SLH and the NL#5xHaze to maintain their height. The others I may just leave be and allow them to grow normally so I gain some experience with that as well. I defineteky think I'll be stacking the OG#18 to keep her up with the others, but who knows hahaha

Yeah the amount of nutes I give to each will vary. I've been studying each specific strain so I can have a better understanding on their growth traits, but each pheno will be different I think so it'll be a little difficult properly dialing it in. I'll be keeping everything logged so hopefully I can learn a good amount this time around so I can have some valuable info on the second run. Also, what do you think about fimming? I think ill have time to get enough nodes to fim once before I put them into flower.

You'd be better off going with one strain and learning it over a few grows.
Fimming is good.

You're absolutely right, however, Im always the person who thoroughly enjoys variety. Knowing i can grow some of my all time favorite strains is well worth putting up with the extra work load. If i could, id double the size of everything im doing so i could add even more strains. Just somethin about it i guess hahaha
I think im gonna try fimming after the 4th node if tme permits. itll be pushing it, but i think i may have time to get to a 4th week of veg

Watch that chocolope in flower, they really shoot up and spread. At least for me. I had a 4x4 tent (height is only 6'), but I had my HPS as high as it could go and I STILL ended up having to tie her out like an octopus to the tent supports to try to keep her height down. :)

I'm in the same boat as you...I have 5 different strains going in veg, but I plan on putting Chocolope and Original Sour Diesel in to flower first, as neither was topped and don't want them to get too big before going in. I should have flipped them a couple weeks ago, but I had to wait for finances to catch up so I could get a new tent. Ah, we live, we learn :)

By the way, I grow everything in 5 gallon buckets. Unless I'm going to veg longer in order to LST, then it goes in an 8 gallon rectangle tote. I find the 5 gallon bucket is a perfect size for me.

Yeah I read that chocolope likes to stretch quit a bit, I'll have to fim and maybe lst her a bit. Gotta love having variety right?! My tent is just shy of 7 feet so for the veg time I'm doing I should be fine hopefully. Do you start your seedling in a solo cup then move them straight into a 5 gallon? With the 3-4 week veg time I have, I'd like to transfer the seedlings right when they hit 2 weeks into maybe a 1 gallon, then in another 2 weeks into the 5. I think I might need 1-2 weeks in the final pot before I switch to flowering. With the time I have, does this sound right?

I have 2 chocolope vegging right now. One has been topped, the other has not. I LOVE this strain! The new tent just came in, so hoping to flip the one that isn't topped within a couple weeks. I need to do some modification on the tent height as my ceiling is only 6' lol

I do start my seeds in solo cups (or small planter the same size). I leave them there until there are roots wrapped around, then transplant to either a 3gal or 5 gal (if I plan to veg a long time, I'll do a 3 gal, let the roots wrap around, then go to a 5gal) I really don't go off of a timeline, I do everything based on what the individual plant tells me. Since you are on a schedule, I would transplant as few times as possible. Take them right from the solo cup to the 5 gallon. Less stress, and less time waiting for them to recover. One thing I have noticed is I can transplant the same night I flip to flower...so the plant is using the time it is converting to flower to recover from the transplant. I've only done that when going from a 3gal to 5gal (or larger). I always want my girls to be a good size by the time I flip, but that is just me.

So, if it were me, when they are ready to come out of the cups, I would go right to the 5gal. There would be too much time wasted on transplant recovery for the timeline you are on. :)

i like variety as well, but its been my experience that the viability of different strain scrogs is variable. if the strains are physically similar at all, its fairly easy, if you have one or two shorties and a couple of bean poles, it gets a lot harder, and while still possible, requires more work than i think its worth. i just wait till i see how they're running, then decide how this cycle is going to go.

Thanks for the help, this is exactly what I needed to hear. I kept going back and forth but thought the shock would take too much time like you said between transplants. I'll probably wait 2-3 weeks from seed to transplant them to the 5 gallon pots. Hopefully they take well to all the extra space and fill it up as quick as possible. I wanna make sure they're well established before flipping. I'm already excited for my next run when I'll have more time and will be able to do about a 6-8 week veg.

I'll be attempting my first scrog next run and see if I can gain a little more experience under the belt with this first one. I'll do 2 strains next time that are similar so I can keep everything even across the board. I think it's incredibly fun to see the growing traits of each strain. Variety will always have a hold on me.

When the stretchier ones get as close to the light as is still healthy, just cut the tops off them. I do it all the time. Doesn't matter what stage it's in, though the stretching would obviously be within about the first 5 weeks of flower. Once they get that tall you have enough bud sites, don't need no more so it's cuttin time. I've grown different strains together like that plenty of times.

Luckily I have a fairly tall tent and with the amount of time in veg I have, I'm thinking height won't be too much of an issue. If it is, I'll definitely consider this. I don't want to burn any of my girls!
