Not to be disrespectful, brother, but those are not COBs. You want either Cree CXB3590s, Bridgelux Vero29C (Seventh Gen), or Citizen 1212s or 1818s.

These are months old. The COB fixtures I have are made by TastyLED/@Rahz. You'll see they list the wattage on top of the fixture. The black ones are 89w (78w of light each) and the red is 92w (85w of light.) The extra wattage draw is from the drivers and fans.

None taken man, This is why I'm showing it. Gotta he sure of what I'm working with before I go and buy on a whim.... I live in an very illegal state and I want to consume as little power as possible while ending with good quality nugs.... like I said the vipar led has made me proud several times now... not big yields but great great smoke, really nice structure as far as the plant's go.... I would love to use my 600w mh hps switchable again but man its risky here. The Pot chopper is always flying around....

I got the smallest unit from them, xg 2 and I got a COB x 4 on the way.
This is a kalashnikov express week 10 of flowering closeup on one of the main tops, from start to finish under xg2 from budmaster

Just doing a little research on these COBs. Are these kits worth looking at, or am I better off buying everything on my own?

I don't currently have a soldering iron and my skills aren't great, but I definitely think this is doable. It really is a win-win for the extra $100. LED quality with HID yield

I will do some more looking around, but I was initially excited about using the LEDs and would like to continue to use them. I have a few weeks before I need to make the switch, so I'm going to watch some videos and do some reading to make sure it's something I can do. DIY scares me because I feel like I'm rigging something, but if it works just as good as something that's double the price, I am willing to give it a whirl. Would 3 emitters easily cover my 20"x46" footprint?

Yeah, should be no issue. There's also Tasty, Timber, and Johnson.

Get a cxm22 engine from cobkits.com and a driver that will run it at 100w it will cost you just over $100 run it in between the Mars panels and you will have a substantial yeild increase

Also northerngrowlights.com has some small fixtures and the quantum board is a wonderful retrofit for Mars if the panels go out

So many options! I'm regretting overlooking the diy growlights in the first place, but I was so overwhelmed trying to get everything else ready and get my bearings
with this first grow that I didn't think twice about diving into a second project.

Now that the plants are started and I have way too much time on my hands, this DIY lighting might be the way to go. I like the fact that I can customize it to fit my closet perfectly. This also eliminates the need for me to buy the second panel AND frees up this current panel to get some clones started in a few weeks. I'm trying to weigh my pros and cons and I'm having a rough time coming up with cons to the cobs besides price. If I can cut it in half by building and wiring it myself, I'm game! Just wish I had more hands on experience

This is speaking to me. I just want to be sure the extra $300 is going to be worth it when it comes to flowering under this alone as opposed to the 2 mars hydro 600 panels. You said only 2-5 oz are possible with the panels, what do you think is possible with this cob? It says only 200w, but I'm not sure what that means with this type of light. Will I be better of than if I just got an hps and proper ventilation?

Can check my grow (in week 9 of flower now) Using a 4 cob timber kit (300w) from seedling. Definitely recommend them. Building a frame is easy if you want to save a bit more cash. When I was pricing them out it was not much more for their kits than buying all the individual parts and all you have to do is hook a few wires up and it's ready to go. I will probably go full out custom next time now that I am familiar but definitely cant complain about the timber setup.

I think I'm with you Perkele. Much more than I wanted to spend on a light. BUT you're only as good as your weakest link, and from what I hear, these mars hydro 600 panels are pretty weak. I am hoping to pull the trigger on either a kit or a 4x linear from timber either 225 cree or 300 vero. I'm thinking the 300 vero with the frame from Timber is absolutely perfect for my op. Wish I had the extra $500 to drop on it right now. IMG_1770.PNG
