Thanks smoke.

Really appreciated the feedback.

I'll let you know how the flowering goes.

I'm making a time lapse of the whole thing that I will post as soon as the grow is complete. Even has night vision so you can see what is happening during the dark time periods.

It's a pretty cool video so far.

So far looks like I only had one male in the bunch and I think that one was a hermi. It has pistils and pollen sacks. That is the plant in the natural light in these pics. I pulled it out the tent but will let it continue in natural light in another room. Let me know if you agree with my opinion. Flower Day 17 (15).jpg Flower Day 17 (11).jpg Flower Day 17 (9).jpg Flower Day 17 (4).jpg Flower Day 17 (19).jpg Flower Day 17 (26).jpg Flower Day 17 (30).jpg Flower Day 17 (32).jpg Flower Day 17 (35).jpg Flower Day 17 (36).jpg

I wanted to keep it because it is the largest plant and is flowering like crazy and since I grew these from seed I just couldn't bring myself to cut it down. But at the same time wasn't willing to let it seed my whole tent.

This is day 17 of 12/12 light cycle.

I definitely agree that you've got a boy there. And a handsome fella he is too, but frankly my friend, unless you have a place to isolate him completely, (and for what purpose?), he needs to die... I've noticed before in my grow that if there's a plant in question, it's always the tallest, best looking one that turns out to be the male :-(

Your grow looks fantastic!

Thanks Bluejeans,

I did isolate it completely and moved it to another room in the house. This is my first grow and thought for educational purposes I would just let the plant go full cycle and take picture and notes throughout the process.

Of course I pulled it from the flock so that it would not seed the rest of the plants but I did want to see how the plant turned out in the end.

I believe (and this is working from my old memory), that you can capture the pollen when he "blows" and pollinate just one bud if you want to create seeds from an especially good plant. Pollen can be frozen and remain viable.

Any advice you can share on the "What NOT to do's" list that you ran into on your first?

The patience that you have to learn with this hobby is I think the hardest lesson to learn thus far...
You might want to put a little more space between light and plant,bc of light intensity , not so much about the heat . And be sure to look at em under normal light when inspecting bongsmilie

Edit: I posted before I saw the normal light pics . Awesome grow

Flowering going good so far. Have not run into any issues yet.

Ended up with 3 males out of the 8 that were planted so left with 5 lovely ladies.

On day 23 of 12/12 light cycle. Looks like the trichomes are starting to develop nicely.Flower Day 23b (5).jpg Flower Day 23b (3).jpg Flower Day 23b (10).jpg

In in another room, even in the other side of the house, your gonna get seeds.

Since you asked about things learned along the way, I learned I prefer to keep it simple. I've tried the co2 thing, had a sensor fail while I was away for a day and it dumped my tank, killing my whole flowering chamber of filled to the brim 4x4 and part of my veg room that was behind a closed door.

Leave them alone as much as you can

Dish soap is better than expensive sprays

Wind makes for smaller frosty dense buds, same with low humidity in flower. High humidity and low air movement makes big buds but I don't like mildew risks involved, and I like marbles that thunk on the table and only take one to get ya good.

Hydro yields well, if you get it right, but lots of risks, soil is reliable.

Generally speaking the answer is more light, unless it's less light. (Cloudy days)

Expensive nutrients spent money on marketing, don't be surprised when they are hyped up and everyone is excited about them, but then you get average results

Buy some kiddie pools or trash cans to store your used soil, you'll want to start reusing it and adding coco coir to it. You may be able to find bags or worm castings and bat guano on Craigslist. I used a whole bottle of Alaska brand liquid fish on a kiddie pool of spent dirt, a 5 gal bucket of guano, and about 10 lbs worm castings. Let it sit about 6 months turning it over when I was bored and had around $1000 worth of dirt. Honestly, at $13 per 1.5 cu foot bag of dirt they are raping us.

Thanks for the tip @growingforfun.

With that in mind I will simply get rid of the male plants.

Don't want to risk it.

It's also prolly worth mentioning that odds are on you finding more hermis in your grow before the end. You had all females and one herm, so those are all femed (hermi) seeds. They may not grow pollen sacks and or bananas, but be vigilant. Especially look on the colas.

A blast of cold water and tweezers can generally remove unopened pollen sacks without spread of pollen, after you cross the point your not gonna want to cut it down.

I am remaining very vigilant indeed. I thoroughly check each day for any signs of pollen sacks on each plant. None of the remaining have grown any pollen sacks so far but fingers crossed that remains the case.

In the case of them being all femed hermi seeds this is probably not the case. These were not all the same strain and do not have the same genetics.

Nice...

I'm about to go grab another few bags myself. Just got the second tent and setting it up this weekend so that by the time this current batch is finishing up I have something new to put in the flower tent.

Just starting germinating some AK 47, Northern Lights, and Skunk #1.

Keep my posted on how your Black Magic grow goes.

So far I have had no issues at all. No nute burn (I have been pretty light on nutes though) and retains water really well. I only have to water 1 maybe 2 times a week though it seems as though in their current stage they are drinking a lot more water than before.

Really appreciate all the feedback.

Here are some current shots from today which is day 25 of 12/12

Still looking pretty good. Just got the second tent setup and got some new seedlings in there now. Here is what the plants look like today which is day 29 of 12/12 cycle.

Will take some natural light pics next time. Was too lazy to pull them out of the tent after setting up the new one.

Looks like I am going to have some good trim when this is all done.

Going to make lots of edibles :)

Took some natural light pics today. The trichome production is really starting to pick up. Colas are still pretty small but there is still more than a month to go so I'm hoping that changes. Plants look pretty healthy with no signs of deficiencies that I can spot at least but then again this is my first grow...
