First Grow (AG PRO 200)

I have 5 seeds from some seeded dank that I got last month, I have germinated 2 of them so far, so I still have 3 left if I am unsucessful with these.

My Aerogarden PRO 200 will be coming tomorrow, I bought a 5-15 gallon air pump also.

I am going to buy a light timer and extra CFLs when I am ready to flower.

Planning on vegging 24/0 for 2-3 weeks depending on how well I can lst this plant.

My ambient temp is ~70(F).

I have posted a picture of my grow station.

I have taped a light blocking strip on the left cabinet door to keep my plants from getting light in darkness periods which could cause hermis.

Now onto the grow journal.

1/20 – Put 2 seeds in a wet paper towel inside a ziploc bag under my sink cabinet.

1/22 – Put Ziploc bag into black fabric bag and placed next to laptop exhaust for extra warmth to assist germination process.

1/23 – There was a red/purple-ish residue on the paper towel, in past germination experiences it was brown/green.

1/25 – Put furthest sprouted seedling in coffee mug with soil from bushes outside. Put brita water that I let sit out over night in soil.

1/26 – Put remaining seed in coffee mug with same soil, watered it with Ozarka spring water (from a jug). Both mugs are on windowsill.

1/27 – Watered both plants with spring water.

-----------------------
Also,
I have a few questions..

Will I need extra CO2 or will just leaving the cabinet open at night be enough air?

Does that look like decent soil for growing a recently germinated seed? It was relatively moist when I dug it up, but it seems like it dries up pretty fast, I'm having to pour 1 shot glass of spring water into it every day it seems like to keep it moist.

How long should I wait on these seeds before I toss them if I did something to kill them in their infancy? 2 more weeks?

Also, is there anything else I should buy now? The only pH tester I could find didn't go below a pH of 6.5.

Yea they had that pH tester kit at wal-mart, but it doesn't go below 6...

I was going to stop by home depot and pick up mounting and bulbs for like 4 23w CFL bulbs when I was ready to flower, no use in buying them right now.

Lookin good, i would get some blue spec Day Light CFL's to add with the AG hood, on my grow i didnt dd the extra CFL's until like two weeks into the grow, and i wish i added them early, idk why you planted the seeds into the dirt, you cant just dig them out and put them into the AG, dont add the nutes untill there 2 weeks old, spoke a hole thru the grow sponges, then cut them in half, any questions, feel free to ask, KEEP us updated :leaf:

Yea, I will try to post alot of updates.

I planted them in dirt because I wasn't sure when my AG was going to come and I wanted to get these plants as far along as I could.

I was planning on soaking the roots before I put them in the AG to get all of the dirt off. Why would that be a problem?

Would it be a better idea to put them back in a paper towel today until I put them in the AG or should I just leave them in soil?

I am going to buy a light timer and 4x23w CFL mounts/lights later today.

Should I use all of the lights the entire grow? (CFL + AG)

I might grab some blue LED lights theres a nice mounting kit I found for like $20

Also... I am planning on using stock AG nutes, 1/2 tablet every week, going to flush out res every week.

Sounds good man, since you planted them already, you might as well keep them in the soil, they should be fine, and the CFL's you need to make sure what light spec they are, look for DAYLIGHT which is the blue spectrum which you want for vegging, and SOFT WHITE red spectrum for flowering

I think I am going to try out these GE light sticks, ready-mounted fluorescent tubes, but I don't know if these will really be what I need.

Planning on getting 3 tubes, 1 for top, left, right.

Lumens: 725
Watts: 33
Temp: 3450K

http://www.elightbulbs.com/GE-12263-...S-PP-Light-Kit
Lumens: 470
Watts: 33
Temp: 3050K

I know its not exactly 2700k but these seem like a bargain compared to buying a sep ballast/fixture.

Also, would it be at any disadvantage to use these while vegging coupled with stock aero garden lights?

How much does the color temp really matter?

is 3400k/3000k a big difference from 2700k?

Should I go for the light with more lumens or closest to the 2700k?

to be honest i never really knew anything bout the lumnes thing, i jus go for the Dalylight and Softwhite, those things are like 30 bucks, all you need is the CFL's, you can get pack of 4 for like 2 dollars

Yea but how would I mount the CFL bulbs? Do they sell wall plug fixtures?

I don't have space for a lamp, and I can't really drill holes in my cabinet.

you have to buy those clamps that hold the lights, you dnt need a big ole fixture, and you buy the Y socket thing for the bulbs, im bout to go to work but i'll take a pic and post em in here to show you

Alright so I finally got my AG set up.

Only thing left to do is get a timer and some extra lighting for flowering, still haven't decided what, but I have some time.

I made sure my taproots were facing down when I put them in.

I have it set on 'super grow' :D

Lookin good man,

Here is those pics i was talkin about

Pic. 1 is the 6 SOFT WHITE RED spectrum CFL's as you can see, its a orange/red color, I actually popped out the AeroGarden sign and put my light through there, nd i actually broke the AG hood off the extension arm so i can hang the lights even closer, this is a good shot, you can see the Y socket that lets me put two bulbs on one socket, and those are the clamps i was talkin about, the bac wass of my grow cab is like a hard card board, and i place screws into and clamp the lights onto them, this is now flowering

Pic 2. is 3 DAYLIGHT BLUE spectrum CFL's, this was during vegging, you can see how the light is blue

lmao, looks like we are growing in the same place!

So what are your lighting specs with those CFLs and how much did it run you up?

Looks like its going to be a decent amount of work to get them mounted.

Here is what I was thinking about doing.

Its only like $40 and I can definitely use those t12s for under cabinets and shit in the future.

Plus it will let me get tons of light on the sides of the bud, not just the top, a nice even distribution.

Just so its in text too, heres the light numbers:

66 W / 1450 lumens (T12s) (3450K)
78 W / 4680 lumens (AG lights) (???K)
-------------------------------------------
144 W / 6130 (Total)

Also, I don't really want to break anything or mod something that I won't be able to un-mod.

Lookin good lurkmaster. What are your plans for nutes on this grow?
Just going to try out stock nutes, if I'm not pleased I will buy some foxfarm or something later on another grow.

For this first grow, I'll use what I've got.

I have the master gardener set with small and large tabs.

haha yea i was thinking the same thing, mines like 6 feet tall, so i got plenty room, and i like your idea with the tubes, that would work too, but gain, those thing are like 30 bucks, and i got those 4 of the 6 lights for 2 bucks at a Do-It Center, the first two i bought separately at like 5 bucks each, not too sure on the actually specs tho, there the 45 watt 100 watt equivilant, not too much work at all, i mean you gtta get down n dirty, put in some work haha

Yea I only have about 2.5 feet height wise.

I picked up a 4 pack of what I thought were 60 watt warm white spectrum, every other kind of bulb they had was daylight, turns out they are only 13w, so I didn't even bother trying to rig anything up, I decided to use them in my desk lamp.

I think I'm going with those tubes, the extra $15 I spend over a CFL setup will probably pay off in the long run via re-cycled use lol.

I'm also interested to see how the lower buds will do with light coming from 2 additional sides not just above.

Will probably order them sometime later this week.

ps. found them for $16.00e/a + $7 shipping
