First homemade soil grow

Hey everyone, the names MzanziM and I'm fairly new to growing. I've had 1 successful grow outdoors and in the process of a hydro grow.

Today I'm starting my first indoor homemade soil grow.

My soil is made from various parts such as bone meal, perlite, worm castings and vermicompost and a few other things.

My seeds were bagseeds and I germinated them about 2 weeks ago. They're looking okay, not 100% but they'll get there.

This is my soil that I mixed up today...

Yeah I did think about that. I've never really had to deal with them. So it might be a good learning curve. They're just bag seeds so I'm experimenting. So we will see how it goes. Thanks for the reply though!

These are the girls (hopefully). I know they're in too big a pots, but I don't want to have to keep transplanting them and stressing them out. I want to do it the simplest way for me, so this was my personal choice.

Some chance they are autoflowerers with bagseed, so starting in big pots is probably the wiser choice

Yes! Very true, purchase black soil in a sealed package and do any mixing of your soil indoors in a clean space. The time you take up front to care pays off with great product in the end.

Day 5 update....

So the ladies are doing well. I'm seeing some nice growth under the hps.

Still deciding whether to ScrOG or just do some lsting. Any thoughts???

you also have the option using of good quality coco coir mixed with 30% perlite as a grow medium, & using the canna coco A & B formula is a relatively safe & effective way to grow your plants

also recommend to use top quality seeds to grow with because bagseed can end up being very inferior plants, but if growing quality proven types it wont be a waste of time, lifes too short to grow shit weed...even if your still learning, Hazeman Seeds and Bodhi Seeds are both very good quality & low price compared to many other seedbanks, you can practically chose any of their types offered & your on a winner

my outdoors grow are using some pots just coco mixed with 30% perlite & other pots have a 30% compost/30% coco/30% perlite mix...the ones with the 30% compost mix are going well & need less watering than the coco/perlite pots, but again if using indoors the compost may add a possible disease risk compared to a straight coco/perlite mix

these jiffy peat pellets are very good for raising seedlings, they come in either coco pellets or peat pellets, i prefer the peat, plants seeds directly into the moistened pellets & when roots are coming out the sides of the pellets(approx 4"-6") its time to plant them into a larger container etc...no transplant shock because the roots are not being disturbed compared to other methods

can recommend Hazemans Mikado, a number of people here on RIU have grown that one out with very good results, its especially good for beginners as its one of the fastest maturing plants available(40-45 days) yet retains a very good quality allround, will be using the Mikado as a stud in a pollen chuck mid january for a group of quality early maturing, heavy yielding types

40-45 from seed or start of flower?

sorry i meant from start of flower to finish, so approx 3mths from seed to finish of an average indoor setup with Mikado, its important that flower times be kept to a minimum while learning because at the end of the day the longer a plant grows the more chance of something going wrong, some plants may take up to 120 days flowering alone, that duration increases negative events becoming more a reality, so a short term strain especially outdoors where a person may miss heavy & prolonged rainstorms & other damaging weather patterns from impacting because the plant finished its budding cycle earlier

So these are the girls so far, I've had a few issues and wasn't able to update. But here it is...

So the one plant seems to be growing alright and is quite bushy, while the other is only growing 3 fingered leaves, anyone know what's wrong or is everything alright?

As a permanent genetic variant that'd be fairly rare, but I think I see this often with stressed plants.
It might start putting out more fingered leaves when it gets on its feet

Here's the latest update on the girls.

So it's 22 days from sprouting today. The one plant is struggling, but the other is growing like a beast..

I dont know why but the 3 fingered plant offends me a little bit. Haha.
