you should start when the temp won't go below 55-60

you can tell if it's female or male when it is in it's late veg state

it normally takes about 50-70 days to flower, but if you want bigger yields, let it flower as long as possible

you can also top em to get bigger yields

go online and do a search for the old Farmers Almanac and see when the last frost is predicted in your area. This is usually a safe time to begin growing. I start my lil ones off inside first then i transplant them into the ground when I think that they are strong enough. As for the rest drochoker is right on it. Flowering depends alot on the genetics. Topping is kind of like pruning, but unless your experienced with this make sure you read alot bout it. Don't just go out and start cutting.

p.s. in my experience the males always show their balls before the ladies will let me know anything.

Anyone dealing with outside grows will have these problems..Those Aphids and grasshoppers were a bitch on my girls last year..the squirrels never seem to give me any trouble. It's the insects that will be your biggest problem, but that may depend on w hat kind of season it has been all around in your area. Like the dryness, wetness etc., Let's put it this way, if everything around your plants are brown and your babies are a beautiful green you can bet your buds that they will sniff them out and have a free lunch. There are organic sprays and posders that you can u se that won't be harmful to the plants and there are homemade tobacco recipes that will usually keep the aphids and hoppers away. Just start off and take it one day at a time and as the problems arise (hopefully they won't) then check out the specific problem on here. Right now just worry about the germinating and the starting off, it's not as hard as it looks..I promise :)

Ivy, that farmers almanac is great advice. Sofly, I'm about to start my first outdoor grow as well but in my excitement I've been reading non-stop and like to think I know a little more than the average first timer. As Ivy mentioned, its very helpful to give your plants a little head start indoors. All it takes is a couple fluoros which makes it super cheap and risk-free. As far as insects go there are several products at your local home depot or whatever is around (whether these products are approved for growing plants that will be smoked is a seperate issue :D). For deer I buzz my own hair so I'm planning on saving some hair to spread around the plants as well as peeing all around them (great to be a male in this case ;)) Apparently deer don't like the smells and will hopefully keep them away. As extra precaution I plan on picking up some fishing wire and going around some trees at different levels. My grow is in a guerilla spot (aka not my backyard) so fishing wire is my best thought in terms of still keeping things on the DL. Hope this helps and good luck.

ive been told that miracle grow is pure cemical and when you smoke the plant you get a head ache is this true
i was told organic fertilizer is best with blood fish and bone mix. i knew a bloke who use to use bat bropings

guano and the fish and bone mix are good. I normally won't get the miracle grow as I am starting them out as seedlings because alot of the times they will get chemical burns but by transplanting time I use the miracle grow..by the time they are cured and harvested right there's no headache.....just good times and classic rock :)

ivy is 80 days enough from seed to harvest? because thats all the time i will have to plant. im not looking for the perfect weed or a large amount i just want to get the feal for it as its my frist grow,i know how to pollanate for seeds but when should i do it and when can i get the seeds

depends on the strain's flowering time...that ranges from on average 40 to 65 flowering days. If your growing outside that could be a problem because with your time limit you may have to force flowering..which the main con about that it you won't have as big of a yield at the end because they did not have a long enough vegative state. In my case, I will pull most of the males as soon as I see them because I don'tlike seedy bud, They can start the pollinating before and right into flowering, if you have a male by your giirls, which odds are that you will unless you get damn ass lucky and allof your plans turn out to be girls. Just the let man do his job and you will notice as your drying curing and cutting your ladies they will have produced seeds.
