First time Scrog grow.

This latest grow I have started will be done using the scrog method. It will be my first ever attempt at scrog let alone any sort of lst. I have a few questions.

1. What materials are preferred for the screen?
2. Does the shape of the screen matter?
3. What height relative to my plant should the screen be?
4. How big should the holes (squares) be in the screen?
5. Should the screen be connected to the wall, or should it be freestanding?
6. How much of the screen should be filled in before I flip to 12/12?
7. When and how many times to top the plant?

I appreciate any and all information you can provide to me. I will be searching through the forums as well, but I am hoping that all of my questions can be answered in one post.
Thanks,
Atrum

1. Screen material can really be anything you come up with. Chicken wire, fishing line, rope, whatever. Just keep in mind if the material is too thin your buds can grow and develop around it so when harvest comes it's difficult to remove, and material that frays aren't a good idea either.
2. Any shape works fine, be creative! The idea is just to keep your nodes at anight even distance from the light.
3. This can vary, some people use the screen more as a support towards the top of branches, I use it just 5 inches above the soil to train all the branches around it during veg into a nice canopy. Some people use two screens, one to train, and one to support.
4. Anything smaller than 2 square inches is too small. But it shouldn't be bigger than 4 or so.
5. Like i said before be creative, whatever works best for you is what you should do. Freestanding or fastened to the walls, it doesn't matter if it works.
6. This depends on the height of your cab, if your head room is really limited and you have a indica strain, fill maybe 75% of it. If it's sativa flip much sooner. If you have plenty of headroom you can fill the whole screen as long as the branches will have plenty of room to grow up. Indicas can grow to 1.5x to 2x it's height in flower, while sativas can easily grow 2x or 3x in height in flower.
7. This is whatever preference you have. Topping will increase veg time 2 weeks or so each time you do it but will give you more ability to train. I only Topped once and it was plenty for me. All the lower shoots came right up as top nodes and even though I only topped once I actually got 8 top Colas.
Hopefully this helps! Can't wait to hmsee how it goes
