Flowering and such- NY grow

the fan leaves were blocking the sunlight to the middle of the plant, so i snipped them off. it made them look a little scragly at first but in around a wk they perked right up and started to direct all theyre energy twords the nodes growing out
So why not tie them out of the way? You said yourself they were blocking the sunlight to the middle of the plant. They produce energy, the plant isn't 'directing all it's energy' to the fan leaves, it's getting energy from them. The fan leaves are already there...what would they even need all the energy for?

well idk but it seemed to work just fine for me as you can tell from the pictures. i trimmed the fan leaves off and more fan leaves grew back on the "bud branches" and the plants bushed back out. and the bud branches need energy because i started my flowering process artificially. theyre is still around 14 hours of light in my area, so i put black bags over them at 6pm and uncover them at 6 am. i have been doing this for a little over a week and a half now and you can visibly see the buds starting to form. So to answer your question on why they need all that energy, theyre you go. the bud branches need more energy to produce nice big fat stinky headie buds for me to smoke this winter. and i only did one round of prunning early into the baggin process. i dont plan on prunning them again unless it just a few leafs here and theyre in the way. they all seem to be doing great besides some nute burn on one of them (which was my fault for adding a little to much potash and or bone meal) im using all organic dry nutes so its a little hard to determine the correct amount of each nute, but im working on it.

let me ask you guys a question and sorry to semi hijack the thread, but why do people fuck around with 2, 4, 9 , plants? honestly? there is no more risk and only a little more effort to grow 40. Then you have grass for a lot longer or something to sell. just curious

Cause it's more intimate of a relationship to your plants to have a few just to toke down yourself. With that many plants its much harder to manipulate the plants into individual perfection. And only the greedy or needy sell their ambrosia. I'm the needy so im fairly hippocrytical oh well. anyways...Keep those fan leaves on they will fall of if need be only pull off leaves if they're easily removed But on the other hand fan leaves directly blocking budding sites should be trimmed or bud sites bent to gain maximum exposure to the Mother Lamp a.k.a. THE SUN

yea and growing 40 plants is also alot more time consuming and risky. because idk about you but in my area helicopters fly over all the time in the fall/ late summer. infact a sheriffs helicopter flew over my site a few days ago, but missed my spot. thankfully. but yea its alot easier to spot 40 plants than it is to spot 10 plants. and i know that im gonna have 9 stinky heady plants full of bud to smoke to my dome at all the fall festivals. because lets face it, if you have ever been to a festival the shit is expensive. compared to potting soil and nutes.

well I can appreciate that. How long do you think 9 plants will last you?

I fall into the needy category so I have about 80, it's been a bit of work getting the grow area set up and the plants in the ground but after that, all I do is well nothing, they water themselves and many are over 7 ft. However, I'm afraid the real work that is going to kill me is the harvesting. oh well got to pay for law school somehow.

A little more effort?

What is your 80 plant grow like? Do you grow in pots or in the ground? Natural soil? If not, how do you ammend it? All organic? You said they water themselves so do you feed at all or just go out three times a year, once to plant, another to sex, and another to harvest? How far away is/are your plot(s) from your place of residence? Are they all together, or do you do one here, one there, etc. Why do you say you're not worried about porkchop-ers?

Just curious to know. I'd like to step it up a notch next year, but I already bust my ass this year.

Well I initially planned to visit just 3-4 times during the season but that didn't work. and really the best cover I found was not remoteness and hard to get to places because they were so far away but places that I knew intimately and knew people didn't visit. I have special circumstances in that I live in a farming community and we have some land and there is just empty land around us, so I know where people go and don't go, I know there are not fishers, hunters, hikers, back woods drinkers ect.. I started mine inside. At one time i had 108 plants about 1' tall underneath my bed that I rebuilt to have lots of romm underneath but not look any different. Then I tranplanted them from special deep grow trays to pots and moved them to the grow site. They stayed in the pots a few weeks and I had some late freezes so I had to make a temporary green house and kept them in there for as long as possible, because they grew great. I'm in such a dry climate in the southwest that I think greenhouses make a big difference. While they were in pots, I had to hand water over a hundred plants every 2-3 days. It took about 15-20 gallons so I would make 2 trips from the water source each with 2 5 gallon buckets. That was alot of work so I was anxious to get the in the ground asap so I wouldn't have to water. So I dug a shit load of holes and removed a crap load of rocks and just put some time realease miracle grow in the holes with the plants and they are still there. one main site with about 3 sites right next to the main site (i was scrambling for room) anyway they are on a south facing hill side out of the wind but still in the sun and when a certain farmer irrigates his fields the water runs off and waters the plants too. I had too look a long time for this set up but with as many plants as I have, watering by hand was not an option especially considering I was out of town most of the summer. but hey I visited a week ago and I have 7+ footers. and this is my first grow so I'm happy. the plants are not to far from my residence but they are not to far from anyones residence, it's a rural area, the differnce is that I grew up there and know that human trafic is not an issue. It's all about the grow site.

wow redking you've some balls man. i hope you get all the males out on time. You must be going through some extreme paranoia and it will get worse with that many huge plants. Make sure to keep an eye out for helicopters from the last week of august- mid october, i don't know where your from but here they love to fly around the rural farm towns in search of grows of more than 20 plants. stay safe and goodluck.

the fan leaves were blocking the sunlight to the middle of the plant, so i snipped them off. it made them look a little scragly at first but in around a wk they perked right up and started to direct all theyre energy twords the nodes growing out. bc they started to get trained in the spring and then i got busy and left them to grow naturally all summer. now about 2wks ago i bent them over and prunned them and theyve all gotten alot bushier where it counts.which is a good thing, because ive been putting bags over them at night to induce flowering early because of the jp strain crossed with the white widow and purple #1. the NYCD is a straight strain from an indoor grow opp. one of my friends run. the hindu kush clone is from seed from nirvana
Thats what I call it and I do it all of the time 2 times really good. Stop a month before flowering starts. I have 100%female. Heres a pic.:joint:

Some Photos For Ye'all!

There seems to be some wide variation between some of my plants- the tips of some pistils are starting to brown on a couple, while at the same time, one of my plants has these big old purple ones that look like they just started growing- though it's been as long.

They're about six weeks into flowering, and are supposed to take between seven and nine (again, they're the sativa Jamaican Pearl, Sensiseeds)

Just to recap, I fim'ed them, and then bent all the stems every which way to ensure that each bud got sufficient lighting- and it looks to be a success!... at least I'm happy.....

Now I'm a little worried about rain- New York is supposed to get about a week of off and on showers, but the temp will be in the 60's..

anywhoooos, just wanted to share the joy!
