ok Mav, here is the quick and dirty about flowering,..... once you have vegged your plants a while, (given them 16-20 hours of light a day) you reduce the amount of light to 12 hours on and 12 hours off. At the same time you change the nutrients from high nitrogen to high potasium. (if you are soil growing ferts with numbers 25-10-10 would be high nitrogen, first number and if you are in the 'flowering' stage you would use a fertilizer with the numbers 10-25-10). The period you 'flower' is strain dependant. Some strains of weed, flower in 6-8 weeks, other strains, such as white widow will finish in 8-9 weeks. Others more, and others less. Use a jewlers loop to magnify the buds to see the tricomes, (they look somewhat clear when they first appear on the buds and turn opaque to cloudy as they flower.) I like to harvest when the plant is 75% cloudy. You and your preferences and plant type will be different. With practice and a couple crops under yer belt, you'll get a better handle on when to harvest. Check out the above suggested links for more info as this is the very quick and dirty of flowering. g'luck.
