does anyone make compost for the soil they use? i know you cant use just compost for soil but i thought this would be a good organic soil and maybe the bud will taste different depending on what you put in the compost
any thoughts?

A lot of home gardeners in general make their own compost, I see a bin on almost every block. I dont see why different rules would apply for the ganja smokers. I was thinking of actually experimenting with making a compost pile this year where my grow will be next year, so that by the time the compost is used it will have all the natural organisms already indigenous to where the plants will be grown and may offer better benefits that say compost bought in a store.

Also when you make your own compost you get to choose exactly what goes into it, and thats saying a lot, theres been many a company accused of using inorganic compounds when making compost and then marketing it as organic. I say go for it

yeah i herd that you need to half it with regular soil cause it would be too nutrient rich
my grandma had a compost bin and a wonderful garden every looks so health and good
so hopefully it would have the same effect on mary jane

IMHO I just stick with FFOF soil and call it a day, but composted FFOF soil may be interesting. I would just be afraid of all the bloom nutes in there later when you are planting seedlings in your stuff. How many of the nutes stay in there when you compost it?

probably not much if you use that as base dirt for the compost
but if you mix the compost in with the FFOF when the compost is ready it will have half the nutes from FFOF and then half the organic nutrients
cause alot of nutrients is in the compost when its done
you can normal just use that for normal plants but for mj i herd of splitting it with soil but im not forsure if it has to be nutrient free soil or if you can mix in nutrient rich soil with the finish compost it might be to much nute in total and might ruin the mj

seedlings should be planted in a sterile planting mix (Pro-Mix or #4) then transplanted into your compost amended soil.
personally all old rootballs (and their dirt) go into my compost and it works great. when you compost used soil (FFOF for example) it shouldnt have much nutrient value left because the plants ate it all last cycle.

if you used synthetic bloom fertilizers on your plants it should have been flushed before harvest/composting.

FFOF is expensive, compost is free.

Vermicompost is about as good as it gets. My problem is I am not experienced enough to work without a specific recipe. That's why I'm doing Super Soil next go-round. I would like to get to the point where I'm using my own compost with amendments.

If you have the time to learn, access to some materials, meaning looking for them in odd places, it can open a wonderful world of organic growing. In todays world everyone seems to think if I don't buy it, it wouldn't work or they just don't have the time to do it. You can compost materials to fit your need from the smallest of houseplants to a major veggie garden, all depends on what you need. If you are a homeowner with a yard you have almost everything you need for a small grow, I am not saying that you are making super soil just from around the yard, but the basics. With yard waste and kitchen scraps you can make a compost able to handle most of the needs of your plant.
If you would like some links to help you get start or any other way I can help just PM.

If you're gonna use compost, you'll wanna start with a base soil to begin with. Most of the larger local nurseries have a good basic mix with no added nutes they private label. Start out with that, and begin building the soil to your liking. I add worm castings, compost and bio char to mine. Then I mix in my dry nutes (Guanos, Plant Tones, or whatever). After the plants are going, I top dress in or water in anything else in a Tea. Works great. Everything's really stable, no sudden onsets of problems.
FFOF has nutes in it. I'm leery of screwing around with soil that has an "unknown" amount of added nutes. Too many variables. Could end up overfeeding and have burnt girls.

i do similar to cl am digger but i add water and straw and food scraps, and strain it thru mesh to get out chunks it works great!! i add it to nute teas in old socks or cheesecloth and to my soil outdoors not so much indoor but the greenhouse gets a healty dose twice a year....
ps if it is not hot it is not decoposeing in the way we want so get the right ratio of scrap to to trim to hay
