Free way to raise humidity ( maybe? )

Well, I just checked my babies ( 2 Auto Ak47 seedlings ) and noticed that my 400w MH was a little too close ( about 1 foot ) to my plants as I seen a small brown "patch" on one of the leaves,so I assumed it was because of the heat from the MH from being too close because I havent given them anything except distilled water to date.... After moving the light up from 1 foot to about 2 1/2 feet, I thought, HMM.. The air seems really dry ( dont have a humidity meter ).. SO, what I did was I wet a few bath towels ( large ones ) really well and put them on the floor beside my pots.. Now, I have no idea if this wil actually raise the humidity, but it seems logical to me.. Anyone have any input on this?

IDK, if you veg and flower in the same room spores from the mold could survive...if it does then your in trouble.

i would rather be safe then sorry

If you can add a heating pad to the pot of water...you will raise your humidity easier also, pending on the heat output of your light.....might not need a heating pad

i use cups of water in my reptile tank. they are not directly under the light, but they are lit up and slowly evap, raising humidity. a lot of reptile people also stick a small air stone in the water container in hopes of faster mor efficient humidization

thx for the advice.. The reason I put towels and Not bucket of water was because of space.. But the cups idea is cool thanks.. I think ill put 3-4 16oz cups of water around the box.. But damn now im paranoid about mold so I may just take the towels and all out till I see a problem.. What are some signs a plant shows from the humidity being too low? I may have jumped the gun lol.

**EDIT**

Ok, well I took the towels out lol.. I do have room at the moment for the bucket o' water.. But not for long. Its going to be my flower cab..

a wet towel is a bad idea if you dont clean it like every other day. when i lived with roommates we bought a cheap-o beer fridge that didnt have a drip tray at the bottom so we just stuck a towel under it. worst idea as far as mold and hygiene goes. within 2 weeks the once white towel was black, green, brown and even red.

yea, I took em out.. I am an admitted noob to growing so I didnt know any better, lol.. Now I do thanks to you guys here.. Gotta love RIU..

BTW what are some signs of "too low humidity" ? What do you look for ( in the plants apprearance )that tells you its too low besides a meter? My box is sitting at 85 at the moment and my room is as hot as it ever gets ( wife has the heater blasting cuz ts cold as hell outside argh ) and im just a tad concerned that the humidity may be a little low..

I know not IDEAL conditions BUT unless your humidity is seriously low, you could probably just get away with misting them a few times a week....i am at 30% humidity right now and no signs of stress.....I THINK andam probably wrong BUT you will get the same signs as an underwatered plant....droopy and maybe a bit crispy

My humidity was really low as well. I went to Wal-Mart by the way and they had a digital thermometer/humidity reader for ten bucks. I ended up putting several bowls of water near my plants and each one raised the humidity about 3-4 degrees.

GrowTech

stays relevant.
kill two birds with one stone and throw a couple clone trays in there, that'll increase the humidity for sure.
