Well you're right, it doesn't hold any scientific truth... yet. Given the amount of research done on cannabis at this time, I doubt I'll be able to find studies specifically proving organic > salts... but there are several studies on food crops backing this up.

Here is a summary of some studies done:

"Organic Foods Contain Higher Levels of Certain Nutrients, Lower Levels of Pesticides, and May Provide Health Benefits for the Consumer "

http://www.altmedrev.com/publications/15/1/4.pdf

It'll be interesting to see what we discover when research is done on cannabis but until then I prefer my ganja au naturelle just like my food. :weed:
That is a paper by someone with no degree or background in science. This cites many papers and studies written by people who actually do http://www.zmescience.com/other/science-abc/organic-food-science02092015/

Personally I love my gmo's and inorganic salts and will continue to use both but I wont tell you it is better than organic simply because current science (there is plenty of it) says neither is really better.

Are the double ended lights really that much better than the regular ones?

I'm moving soon and need to assemble a new grow set up. I'm also buying new equipment so can't help but wondering if I should be looking into these or not bother?

I've heard mixed reviews on these and would be so disappointed if I put the money, work and time into these just to not like them as much as the regular ones.

The amount of light usable by plants is quite a bit more BUT in order to get more light it means more heat and the 1000W have to be 3+ feet away from the plants. I'd also get the Philips bulbs.

I used gavitas in the past and just bought more. Paid 680ea no discount even bulk.

Damn wish I could charge that. In store with not having to deal with warranty shipments I was selling them for 575+ tax which is $644 after taxes. I'd have to charge $20-25 more if selling mail order to compensate for any warranty shipments I've seen some of the Gavita bulbs not last as long. They say they are re branded Philips bulbs but I don't believe them as I've seen too many issues with the 600 but not the 600 Phillips. Also my cost for the Philips bulbs is quite a bit cheaper then Gavita, mind you I get pretty good deals from the one wholesaler that deals with Agrolux/Phillips Green but even then the price difference is $20 wholesale for the 1000W bulbs and Phillips being the cheaper one.

Gavita's prices where I am jumped up a small amount in January and that was Gavita raising their prices but it was negligible. I think because SS do a lot of business between Canada and the US they've been hit a bit by the currency fluctuations and that's probably caused the price changes

What are your thoughts on something like this Canna?: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Honest-Manufacturer-SINOWELL-Grow-Light-Reflector_60379388338.html?spm=a2700.7724838.0.0.6073zF

Would a guy be better off with something like that and say this ballast, rather than the regular single end ones?: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/China-Honest-Manufacturer-SINOWELL-Hydroponics-1000w_60368296464.html?spm=a2700.7724838.0.0.URZosB.

I realize it's no Gavita but it is the double ended bulbs and does allow air cooling hoods this way. Or would this be no better than the regular single ended ones?

@itsmehigh , feel free to jump in with your 2 cents as well bro. Always appreciate your opinion.

For what it's worth I was having trouble with a EL-2 controller...Gavita's distributor replaced in No charge with very few Questions. The service was good.

From what I've been told nothing to do with that. Sunlight Supply a US wholesale company is opening shop in Langley BC. They pay in US for Gavitas so when they sell them here the price would be higher than the only other Canadian wholesaler so Gavita raised the wholesale price to even them out. $40 in one shot if fucking ridiculous.

I wouldn't trust anything Chinese unless it at least had someone there looking out for quality control and you have someone else to handle the RMA's. Not saying its not good as it could be a good item. If you got a ballast that can light a DE bulb and stick with proven Phillips DE then I'm sure it'll be ok.

Every other digital ballast I've ever owned came from china and I never had problems with any of them. Only difference is that I bought them in Canada so paid 2-3x as much.

Thx for your feedback Canna, I appreciate it man.

That's because you see it only from your side I get to see it from the retailer side. ATM the CAP a Coil ballasts are about 30% return rate after 7+ months. They are junk aluminum cores that run too hot. Digital ballasts are not as bad. But look at Lumatek and Bad Ass. I still have people bringing them back and having to try to explain you can't get warranty anymore as Lumatek is out of business and AN won't touch them either. Luckily most guys got their moneys worth so its easier to give them deals on new ones and have them throw away the old ones as its been 5+ years.

Yeah definitely, that's exactly what it is. That perspective was only from my own experience, sorry brotha, didn't mean to come off the wrong way man(if i did). The oldest ones I have are only a little over 5 years old too so maybe trouble soon, I haven't had them long enough to know for sure.

Double ended fixture are killing right now. 600w pulling 2lbs and 1000w upto 3lbs. Not all bulbs are created equal, Most these fixtures are made in the same factory and rebranded, Gavita is just one. I've had no problems with the knock offs, spend the extra on the bulb, this is where some fall short. I'm paying $506 for the Gavita and $300 for their knock offs. Just set a client up with 101 knock offs and saved him $20k over Gavitas. He was tickled. Basically a 1 year warranty, if it fails you get a direct replacement, you are on your own after the 1st year. Less than a 1% fail rate in the last year. Just to be safe I deliver 101 for every 100 ordered.

You'll need a min 9' ceiling, and AC to utilize these heat monsters. A 3' head space is recommended from fixture to canopy. You shouldn't air cool these bulbs, they need to run hot to be efficient. A controller is a must imo, not having to raise and lower lights is worth the price alone. Simply increase or decrease the output, the light are permanently fixed to the ceiling.

I got a connection in Missasaga for Knock offs, asking $400 retail, but you can grind him to $360 if your interested. Or if you need 100+ I can hook you up.

If you have any specific question, just ask.

Itsme.

Thanks for chiming up man, was hoping you would.

I kinda figured that might be the case but what about a situation where air cooled hoods are necessary though because of temp issues? Would a air cooled double ended bulb(although not at its top efficiency) still be better than a regular standard air cooled bulb, or no? Are standard bulbs less efficient too when air cooled?

No point dishing out more cash on a DE fixture if your not going to utilize the efficiencies of running "hot". You may see a small increase depending how "perfect" your room is and your growing ability. The DE are designed for commercial agriculture, and greenhouses. I have never run an air cooled fixture so I can only speculate and go off what I have been told. Imo stick with what you got, unless AC is in your future.

What about with AC? What kind of % increase do you think over regular digital? I am wondering about holding out for ceramic MH, which I am hoping to run through some MH analog kits.

I'm surprised by that. The new Canadian facility they are building in Vancouver will be their head office and I would expect them to buy direct to Canada through their Canadian offices.

DE fixtures run 20% more efficient and produce 20% more light (same thing?). Some fixtures can run DE MH, although Gavita does not recommend it, their knock off's will.
