General questions about molasses

I've been reading good things about molasses from growers. But I'm alwasy left with some questions, and I'm hoping maybe someone could help answer some of them.

What type of molasses are the right kind? From what I understand there are three types of molasses; You got the Light molasses from the first boil. The dark molasses from the second boil, and the backstrap molasses from the third boil. And should it be unsulfured or sulfured?

I read that molasses contains nutrients like calcium, potassium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, selenium. And from what I understand, molasses is used mostly for two things, feeding microbes and flushing out exxes salt buildup in your soil. But could you also use it as an nutrient component along side Your other nutrients, or would the amount be insignificant?

Last but not least, how much molasses should you use to get the desired effect? And when would you start treating your soil with molasses?

You want blackstrap unsulfured.
I use it for feeding the microbes and for what it itself contains. I have never heard of it being used to help flush salt buildup so cant comment on that.
I first use it right after mixing my soil and atleast once every two weeks from then till 4 weeks before harvest. I usually use it at a rate of 1 tbl per gal of water.
As for using it as a nutrient it is widely known a lot of bottled products are little more then a molasses concoction of one form or another.
Cheers :)
