Generator Question, Power Out !

Lost power yesterday afternoon, still out this morning! dammit.

My whole house is electric, my garden building is electric, no propane or natural gas out here.

I have a generator question.

My home and garden are on separate meters. I currently plug a generator (have two)into each building/box with the handy switching/plug pro installed.

As I age I consider having one generator, one propane tank to fuel it, hooked to both meters at the same time, automated.

can one proper sized generator be used to power up two meters at the same time automated?

thanks for help

No idea on the generator but yeah man this is some real bullshit. I think the power company actually turned the power off around where I'm at. The power went off then a power truck drove away. Everyone else's power is on now except for my street. Not a downed line or tree anywhere. Hope my clones make it and plants in veg don't start flowering. Hi can't afford a generator. :(

I've got 20 super star Chemdawgs in flower right now, all different stages. went out there this morning saw the gfi with the relay timer plugged into to was tripped, making the light controller null ! dammit! they all got an extended dark period, timere shows as soon as the gen kicked on the gfi tripped, so an all nighter actually during lights on period. not worried but pisses me off. now I need a tripped gfi phone dialer wtf!!!:wall:

Haha Wow. Just a little wind causing all this trouble. Yeah i think you should be fine with just one extended dark period like that

.so They are saying it might be until the weekend until power is back on now. They are fixing downed lines 1st and since there are no downed lines here I bet I'm the last to get power turned back on. I wonder what happens if my females in flower just sit in the dark for a few days? They are in soil

I'm no spring chicken with these power magnates and their antiquated equipment. A couple years ago I was without dte power for 10 days! cost me near 30 bucks a day to run gens, giving me a newfound respect for my obligatory payments to the barons in my land

Yes, with proper sized generator you can run 2 separate boxes/meters.

awesome !!!! I was hoping so, concerned about the automatic start ups, electrical wiring etc. I'm hands off, pros would be doing this but was curious. thanks much!

I live off the grid and run a generator as my prime power.
I am currently running an 8kw Kubota diesel.
If you can swallow the price tag of a diesel genny, you will be rewarded with high efficiency and longevity compared to a gasoline or lpg gen-set. It costs me roughly $200 a week to run my household, 2 thousand hps on 24 hours or 4 on a 12 hour schedule, and another 1000 watts in ventilation and fluorescents.
$800 a month plus the cost of the machine amortized over a 5 years @ $130.
It might seem expensive, but I don't have a smart meter attached to my home and it's a drop in the bucket come harvest

That's awesome
I was looking at a similar setup for a property I'm building.
The guy I buy my parts from told me that I could switch the diesel gen or to run on filtered used cooking oil for peanuts. Is that possible with yours?
Might save you a fortune since u can get that oil for next to nothing anywhere.

You can run svo - straight vegetable oil in any diesel, but it derates their power a bit and lowers the life of the generator due to the seals wearing, valve and ring wear, from the higher acid content and ash content of the oil.
It also gels easily in the cold- it's real cold here and requires a preheating during use.

A better alternative IMHO is biodiesel, but the cost associated with the equipment and finding a source of used cooking oil keeps me from going that route.

I run #1 home heating oil that costs me $2.17 a gallon vs the price of diesel at the pump is $2.70, currently. The extra price at the pump is the extra the state tacks on in road taxes. I can also have this fuel delivered.

No, there's nothing too interesting going on around here, not enough for a TV show.
Plus, most of that reality TV, is just scripted and fake.

A show based on guerrilla farmers would be sweet!
