Germinated Seed Won't Grow

:wall: Okay so i germinated one seed and let the taproot get to a little over a half an inch before i planted it outside. The soil is very fertile from my garden and i mized it in with some vermiculum too. I planted the seed about a half an inch below the surface and it has been a week and i have nothing poking up through. Being a newbie, and impatient, i dug around a bit and there wasn't any sign of the taproot!! however, i found half of the seed shell sitting on the soil so what happened? We have had some heavy rain for a few days so could that have killed it? Thanks

This is why I just plant directly in the medium these days. I sometimes have issues with the paper towel method and I lose a lot less this way.

What most likely happened is too deep and the seedling didn't have enough energy left to pop up out of the soil. The root tip will come out and turn at an angle similar to a boomerang. This gives the seedling some support and lets it raise it's head. So plant the seed pointy side up, so the root goes up and then down. You really don't need to plant it very deep at all, like a 1/4'' the root tip is what will go down in the medium the seed/head sould be very close to the top.

hmm. im not sure about the heavy rain, but since you said the soil is very fertile, maybe it was too hot for the seed? tiny plants dont need much nutrients at all. maybe try starting a seed in a small cup of regular dirt. then once it gets big enough to move, put it in the ground

Dude, people can say what they want, but I would never put a germinated seed directly in the ground outside. In the future germinate your seed the exact same way you did, but this time use a organic seedling mix like Jiffy Organic Seed Strating Mix with a seedling tray. Add a little vermiculite and pearlite and nothing else. Put the germininated seed in a seed starting tray. If you let the tap root get half a inch when you germinate then bury the tap root and leave the head of the seed above the soil and LIGHTLY water with a mixture of Superthrive, Sodium Peroxide, and Distilled Water. This will allow the root tip to search for more water and it will make it easier for the cotyledon leaves to sprout because there is no soil for the seed to push through. The seed will come up and pop the shell head on it own. Once the seedling is 2-3 inches tall then take it out of the seedling tray and place it in a solo cup. Make sure you drill holes in the bottom of the cup for drainage and use the same seedling mix when you transplant. Let the plant grow in the cup for atleast 1 month under a cfl light. by that time put her outside for a while or plant her directly in the soil outside. Within a month of growing inside, she should be strong enough to handle the stronger soil and rain/etc outside. I keep an eye on the weather to make sure it doesn't rain before I put my plants out. Marijuana seedling leaves are VERY fragile and can get torn to shreads with a heavy thunderstorm....much less a fresh germinate seed. Always care for your babies inside before putting them outside. No need in taking chances. Especially with seeds you purchased.

This should give you an idea...From the seed tray to the cup...

I let mine get a nice size before putting them outside though....

i don't bury mine so deep after tap root's out either but yea your best bet for success would of been to grow your plant in a cup for awhile vs. throwing seed in ground.
