so my first journal is 3 weeks old and i've been putting info about my second set of plants there until now. i am starting this journal to document the second or "next" batch of girls that are starting with a bit more knowledge and experience, limited as it may be.

12 nov 08 - 16 bagseeds started using shotglass method of germ
14 nov 08 - 14 of 16 showed life and were moved into rockwool cubes under 24 hr. light in big room with 1st grow girls. all cubes were presoaked with 2 drop per gal. of SuperThrive 50 in 1.
18 nov 08 - moved the 4 wallyworld $10 2 ft. 17W (68W equiv.) flouros into small closet with seedlings. light is completely engulfed on plants, much better than 1st batch. 6 of 14 above ground.
23 nov 08 - 3 more seedlings above ground. 1 of the original 6 showing signs of death.
24 nov 08 - 3 of remaining 5 showing signs of growth below surface. the 1 dying gal is getting worse.

that's the gist of it for now. of course pics will be shown in the following posts. after all, looking at pics helps us all learn...

pics just taken today, 25 nov 08. a fan has been added for circulation, but it cools the closet too much. moved it to indirectly circ the air while hopefully keeping temp good and warm. the second of these pics show the dying baby. the 3rd pic shows the good growth of the rest of the plants. i'm pretty sure these girls will do better once i get the temp under control.

have gotten 9 seedlings above ground. 1-6 are the oldest and very similar in timing. 7-9 are a few days behind, maybe 4 - 5 tops. #4 has looked sickly since the beginning, but is coming on... #9 is having some funky initial growth also, we'll see how they recover from being potted. 5 cubes that have not sprouted will be left alone to see what happens in time. maybe nothing? maybe a surprise? who knows, 14 plants is too many for me anyway.

the cubes on the right in the last pic are of cilantro and parsley seeds started on the 18th of nov. and the 5 leftover pot cubes. i wanna see how the other herbs will do using similar techniques as growing weed. so far they seem slow to germ, but there is life coming from a few of the cilantros inside those cubes...

the cups are 18oz. meijer brand cheapies. all filled with regular old MG potting soil and plain tepid water. the plants are under the 4 17W flouros with a small fan that blows indirectly at the ladies. pics are attached.

mylar has been put into the closet. it makes such a difference even though there is only 2ft. flouros in there. making the most of the light is the goal right?

another seedling died today... :-( nos. 4, 8, and 9 are all gone now. that leaves 6 out of 14 bagseeds have made it this far. about the same as the first try.

plant #2 is the first of any i've gotten going to have leaves that actually point up. i mean it looks noticeably odd compared to the others. anybody know why this may be?

hey MrBitti!
i have room in the bigger closet for these, but you're right i do need an HID before then. i plan on getting one now that some success has been achieved. honestly, i never expected the first grow to go so well. maybe if i'm a good boy... santa claus will have a lamp in his sack for me! ;-)

the rest of today's pics. there is not a shot of #7 because it is no longer in this small closet. i stuck it in with my big girls in the 12/12 room to see what'll happen with her. so, both grows will have 5 plants, #7 being on her own in it's little world, becoming the bastard cousin of both rooms...

so the plants were doing terrible. after seeing the MiracleGro effect on my first attempt, these plants needed a change. they've been transplanted into 1 gal. containers with Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil and have sprung to life. a "Lights of America" 65w flouro has been added to the room as well. after 2 days in their new soil/pots with the additional light and they are looking great.

group photo day... they are getting big... installed a bigger shelf in there, added some new seedlings... am starting an experiment with some training/pruning, bent #2 all the way over to see how it'll do, after 2 hrs it is already turning upward... brought #7 back into this closet from my 12/12 room (3 weeks in there & it was looking weak) and it has sprung into new growth... amazing the strive for life mary jane has isn't it?

first post in quite a while... 8 weeks of veg and these plants are doing great. my first grow is coming close to completion and i dont have room to flower these yet. plant #7 has been flowering in it's plastic cup and is about 1ft. tall, with a single top bud. plant #4 was put into the flower room and it has buds forming, looking like a nice indica... the pics in this post are:
