I stumbled onto an article somewhere extolling the virtues of humic acid. So i studied a little about it and found that a primary source of humic material is lignite. So I look up lignite and hey!, I know where there's a whole bunch of that stuff! I always wondered why the creek where I collect agates and fossils looks like a prehistoric jungle, now I know. It's chalk full of lignite, black sands too...

It so happens I found a huge chunk of lignite, biggest I ever seen.
Wish I had some way to get it to a truck.

I collected me about 50#'s of lignite and packed it out.

So now Ive got it, but i'm not sure what to do with it.
Is it effective to just pulverize it and mix it in the soil? Or do I need to bust out the stainless
and the labware and cook me up a batch and precipitate out the pure plant go-go juice?

It's one of the richest sources of fulvic/humic acids. how to extract it tho.....

You could mill it down to granular size and use it when you mix your soil, sorta like biochar. It wont have the same properties as bio char but it's an interesting concept. It bears looking into for sure.
