Got some mites, will dish soap work?

Fungus gnats are easy to control. Just take a cup, put some dishwashing liquid in, spray it so it foams up really big, then pour in a big big dose of vinegar. Gnats are attracted to rotted fruit (vinegar) smell. Just keep refreshing it, foaming it up, adding vinegar, and within a couple of days you will have taken care of your gnat problem.

Althor thanks! How do u foam it up don't get it?So they swim in but not out? And u juss do it everyday ..do they die right when they go in?

Yeah, of course when you spray some water into the cup, I use the kitchen spray hose, it will foam up the dishing washing liquid, I basically let it foam up til it reaches the lip of the cup. That is usually about half a cup water, half a cup of bubbles. I then add vinegar until the bubbles go up over the lid. They fly in, land on the bubbles and get stuck.

azitrol or soap should be used every 3 days ..hot shot for 15 days strait.. also put sticky stuff on bottom stem to make it harder for them to move around .

Well depends on just how bad your infestation is. Just refresh it daily until you dont see them flying around anymore. If you catch them early, before they do alot of breeding, it doesnt take long at all to clear them out. If they are all over and flying around everywhere, it might take a week or so of it.

Not sure about the peroxide. I know it helps roots recover from damage, so it definitely wont hurt.

But as far as it goes, put one in there and check it the next morning. You will see how it works.

My bad infestation, next morning there were hundreds of gnats dead floating in the cup. Each night there was significantly less, but still alot. After about a week or so, I would only see one or two. After that, none.

Althor u r a god I did exactly this within 30 seconds I killed to gnats I have them right by the floresents on the floor hppefully the twenty I'm seeeing on n the light are all in the cup by morning ill keep u posted ..I want to kill the larvae next will flush with sum h2o2dude thanks again ima rep u as soon as I hit da comp I'm on rui moible now haha!how many cups wud u put in a 4x4 would 1 work?

I ALSO SAW MY FIRST ROOT APHID WALKING AROUND!!!!!!!! HOW THE FUCK DO I KILL THEM ALLL OFF!!

THE CUP HELPED ME WITH MOSTTT BUT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO REALLY FUCK THE POPULATION UP!

Yeah sorry, I cant help you with any other pests. Fungus gnats are the only pest I have had to deal with so far (crosses fingers) and I found out that little trick from a family member and it worked fine. As far as the larvae go, basically you just have to give them time to change. As long as you keep a fresh cup inside the grow area, as soon as they can they will fly straight to it and die and you will be cleaned out.


Just on a side note, when I buy a new bag of soil, first thing i do when I get home is pop it open and put a cup inside the bag. I bury it a little to keep it stable and make sure I clear the gnats out before I ever start using it.

Althorthanks so much it worked! Found twenty dead! But still found ten alive on my light..how many cups should I put in my 4x4? And how many times should I fill it up..? Everyday? Thanks again ..I heard fungus knats turn to root ahpids all these fuckers better die! I only have a few but they discust me

Ok yeah I dont know. Never really had the root aphids I guess. Or maybe I did and just gave them time to get to the vinegar. As far as it goes, you can put in as many as you want. You need to freshen them everyday since the suds dissipate. The suds trap them. They land on it just fine, then they cant fly away. They wont just fly in and land on water.

Yep, suds are the bubbles. That is also why I add vinegar until the bubbles rise up above the cup. So they land and get stick. As far as how many, as many as you want really. One works, but you can put a 2nd one in as well. Just make the vinegar smell thick and plenty of bubbles to trap them.

im just wondering how long it will take to kill them all even tho im only seeing like one or two flying by the soil rarely i see them mostly come from no where and land on my floresent tubes like 5 a minute...but they all die!!

For what its worth i have done extensive research & have been in engaged for months. Have tried hippy nemm oils doctor doom three & one killers swore by the no pest strip. All who read this are in for a major siege. As most know eggs can stay dormant for months then boom baby they swarm so its maintenance until there eradicated. All have an effect in the begining BUT DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON NEEM OIL it is hard to get it out of the weed the least effective of all the hippy crap! The best bang for your buck is the soap it cost penny's I have been using ajax but almost any none bacterial soap works I am about to use dawn just because its got the most hype. One table spoon to a gallon of water istem I use an industrail concrete form sprayer underside of leaves is the target wait 20min then blast all with water hose. You must stay with it at least once a week until you are sure there are none. They do not build resistance you can spry buds to right up to harvest just be sure to rinse very well. Get your self a 30 or 60 power pocket magnifier glass there cheap & a must have pull & check infected leaves continue until there are no eggs or little crawlen suck in sons abitchs. Or spend the money and get AVID is chemical about 120 bucks but that well do alot of grow rooms split the cost with a freind cause it seems like every ones got good luck & death to the mite!!!!!!!!!

has anyone here tried a hydrogen peroxide mixture?

I have been using calicleaner and hydrogen peroxide wash alternating the two for spider mites. To be honest the peroxide seems to work extremely well. As far as gnats when I get em I use gnatrol and yellow sticky traps kills em every time.

old thread but i thought id chime in. I was sold a lot of crap but never used it. I used sunlight in a spray bottle. weak solution. did it every 2 days for 3 weeks in my shower. You should really soak the plant. dunk if possible to guarantee full coverage. it suffocates them. haven seen a mite in a week or so. Even washing them away with water helps as it knocks the population down. as far as thrips are concerned use spinosad, it works really well. .
