"playing" more like torturing the babies............why check root development without a control group?? those 660nm got you covered, no need to check:P

He-He ...
Not torturing ..
'Hardening " ...
This is Sparta ! :-P

Anyway ...They are plenty ...
In fact I'll have to choose "randomly " (the best phenos ) ,so only 4 of them will remain ...
Of which ,I hope at least one ,to be a female ..

No need for control group ....
Trully speaking ....
I've seen so many different " cases " of roots ,under a wide variation of enviros/'pressures" (light/temp/etc ) ..
That ( I feel ) ...I've ,in my head ,a rather extensive ..." control group " ...(At least ,that's what I think .... :-P )

Yes ...Probably ,those 660 reds along with the 620-640 nm red peaks from WWs ,have me (both ) covered .. ;-)
There's plenty of ( ' full ' wl range ) red ....

That will "speed" up ,many biological procedures ...
With some wanted effects/reactions and some "unwanted " ....
Anyway ...
..
Exploring the ..Unknown ....

I had to stop the whole grow ....
Found a summer job ,away from home ...
So ....
No more grows for the summer ....

Notes :

Plants do grow really fast under the 8x WW 2700 & 4 x 660 nm H.reds......
But with excess stretching issues ....

Now ,I 'll build the third panel of the system as a "veg oriented panel " ...

( 4x NW 4000K ,CRI 95 _ 4x WW 2700K CRI95 _ 4x Hyper Red 640-660 nm )

One out of three panels will be the "blue " providing panel ...
The rest two ,as they are ....

More from September ...
When system will be available for sale ,also ...
( at about ~ 2500 € ...=> ~ $ 3300... ) ..

Still a lot of work ,refining the whole system .....

Currently ,apart from building #3 box ( the veg -oriented one ) ,I'm studying and trimming ,the "coverage" and "spectral mixing " issues ...

mcpcb incidence 1.jpgmcpcb incidence2.jpgmcpcb incidence3.jpgmcpcb incidence4.jpgmcpcb incidence5.jpg...

I've promised to myself ,that this system is going to be the best led grow panel system ever build ....
And I kinda like keeping my promises ....

Still ,there's a lot of work to be done ....

When I say "system " I mean :
- 3x GD-SDS boxes ( 36 x Oslons SSL leds each .. ~22- 95Watts ,at plug .... )
-1x main PSU (MeanWell )
- 3x interconnect DC power cables ( _2.5 meters length / Neutrik XLR 3 pin connector )

The prototypes : system prototype.jpg...

Possible owner of system will be able to choose amongst plenty of things / variables ...
(spectrum ,parts ,heatsink quality,etc ..)

Reminder :.... It is not meant to be available to/for the "masses " ....
Only for those few ones ....

The 1 % ...

:-P

Heliospectra for the poor...

Still ,there's a lot of work to be done ....

That's the "competition " I like ..and deserve ....
I wish you ,all the best .

Once again ....

Jaw-droppin' stuff,comin' from you ....

(Osram Ostar ? ..??? ... Details ? ) ..

Shit ....I want one of these ....

Just being curious ....
R U still in the Osram "side " ?
Or moved to Cree or elsewhere ?

Congrats Guod !

Keep the rest of us ,motivated ,for the 'better' ....

....Worklight ?
.......
Let me ,shoot a hard guess about the channels ...

-#1 Royal blue
-#2 NW of the .CC (Color Champ )
-#3 WW same Color Champ ...
-#4 Ok ... ..Hyper Reds...

Drivers ?
Recoms ?
( they can be used in such applications ,ya know that ... )

....

Great project ,there !

Total power ?

checking osram, cree, nichia, lumileds at this time

some specials...

ostar stage..
http://www.osram-os.com/osram_os/en/products/product-promotions/led-for-automotive,-industry-and-consumer-applications/osram-ostar-stage/index.jsp

Phosphor-Converted(PC) Amber
http://www.luxeonstar.com/v/vspfiles/downloadables/ds62.pdf

worklight: simple a white light for working at the plants or making pics. 16W per Unit. can be boost to 30W for photos
drivers:with the PWM-Controler i can use Recom or Meanwell.
regulated power of the growlight is 50W. 70W with some limits in the spectrum. at full settings more than 80W

Come to think about it ...

Yeah ....

It really seems to take full advantage of led tech .....

A " new " school emerging ....

Whites & Blue/Red ..

Divide the useable spectrum ,roughly in two halves ....

The short wavelengths ( violet-blue-greens ) part .....

With all of it's effects in plant biology ..(common more or less ..)

Main led type for this part is the NW ..Enough blue ,lots of green ...
Assisted by few royal blue leds here'n'there ..To "broaden" the blue peak, also ....

NW & Royal blue .....(Maybe in one channel or two channels ..Or different pcbs or even panels ... )

The other part .....
The "long wavelengths " part ...
(Yellows/ambers-reds -far reds ) ....

Main led,at this case the WW one ... (with as red peak ,as possible .. ) ..
It's company ,will be the 630-640 nm &/or 650-660 nm red leds ....

WW & Reds ....Again maybe in one channel or two .... Or,or ... ,or ..)

......

Yeap ....

Possibly ,the best led combo ,there is ....

( Only thing left is the actual study and use of UV & Far RED / NIR leds .... The two opposite side , "extremes " ....)

So ...Yeap ....
Probably best led grow light ever build, needs the "right " Royal Blues ,NWs ,WWs & (Deep/Hyper ) Reds ...
Led choice -wise ....

...

Sounds Really great ....

Typ .50 Watts ?

Multi panel system ,right ?

PC Amber .....

Something like WW High CRI ..
Without the blue/greens..
Which you'll provide with another way ....

So ...For the Warm side ....

PC amber & Hyper Reds ....

Great idea ....
Since PC ambers look like "really wide/broad peak monochromatic reds" ...

I've used WW for that ....
You are "aiming" more to the "spot" with those ....
Great idea ,indeed ...

Oh ,man .....

You keep me restless !!

Another "compromise issue " regarding leds.....

" Packing " closely the leds on the mcpcb design ....

Pros :

-Different (spectrum/power ) light cones-from different leds- mix/blend better .. ( lean towards "one single cone " )
-Saving space ....

Con's :
-Cooling issues.
-Trace designing issues (while pcb designing )

Packing closely the leds ,ensures better light homogeneity ....
Leds like Oslons SSLs (and plenty of others of course) are specially designed for such purposes ..
(i.e Osram Previa modules ) ....

But then cooling becomes even more sophisticated issue ...

Osram insists on thermal pad (copper ) of mcpcb ,to be as large as possible ... (thermal copper pours ) ...
That ensures better heat radiation / air convection from top side of mcpcb and better heat conduction at bottom side ,in contact with heatsink ...

( Yeap ,it works wonders ...Trust me ,I know that ,pretty good ... )

Leds like Luxeons which do not have the thermal slug on the middle (between anode/cathode slugs ) ,
allow for even more efficient (cooling-wise) mcpcb designs ....
(I.e leds placed next to each other ,all sharing same thermal pad surface ..)
And "tracing " becomes way lot easier ,when mcpcb designing ....
( Anode / cathode are close to each other ,with no thermal slug between them ...
And both are seated to the other side of led package ..Across the thermal slug ... )

And thus, closer packing of leds ,becomes feasible ....

Every little detail ,counts ....
