Grow room automation

    Yes, I think integrating the two would be great solution! I will working on something like that in the near future. I plan to leverage a lot of the work you've already done to customize for my environment.

    I use timers for lights water pumps and fans. Having one place to adjust schedules is convenient and builds reliabilty leavinng more time to focus on growing. I am also working on a GrowGreen water and air controller to complete the set of arduino based control systems. I used to feel that way until my first timer failed:( now I believe in automation no more light timer failures. I am working on water timing now. I already have a solution for the automation but i need to finish the hydro and f&d controller with air and co2

    I use a timer for my lights, 10/14 for flower. I hand water and grow in Roots Organics Formula 707 using Roots Dry Nutrients Player Pack system, plus their Surge. Like, mine's all back-to-nature/basics shit.

    Subed and very interested in this. VW will this be plug and play or will we have to program ? I would like to see pics of everything setup and running.

    What I've found useful with my graphs/plots is that it shows when sometimes I forget to turn my feeding pump, evap cooler pump etc.
    I find I check my grow room status using my phone every few hours out of habit and even look at the ip camera to see if my crops being ripped out by anyone.
    It's helped me the numerous times I've forgotten to turn off the regular room light while my plants are supposed to be sleeping too.

    I don't know squat bout this but I've seen 2 auto boxes advertised recently. 1 is Seedo not avail. yet (1 plant hydro.), hardy har.. Can't recall the other, has more bells and whistle, (big Canadian pot player?), they claim it is a seed to harvest no visit deal (camera to p.c./ phone. Miracle grow has the chops to put out a really nice product, like these,. I'll bet they do. If you aren't familiar with these boxes you may try to punch them up. Their specs. may give you some ideas? If you are a cutting edge tech buff. that light device the manu. calls a crystal could be fire. Uses sunlight, no elec., no heat, no hood. Can't find it again or I would give a link.

    Doing research, i think it will be easier to make the system plug and play with a wired system first, as well as lower cost. I am envisioning a black case with 3x3 pins for temp/humidity sensors provided, 3x3 gpio pins for each station/area; Veg, Bloom, clone; for any relay board of desire, 2,4,8,16, etc, for lights on/off with a schedule, fans on/off with a schedule, water pumps on/off with a schedule, for a total of 3x3x3 gpio pins 3x3 areas. I am also looking at a control of a heat pump one more gpio pin, as a temp control function, and a humidifier/dehumidifier one more gpio pin. Adding CO2 should max out the gpio pins outputs for the raspberry pi. Most of the daily work is done with rules primarily gaining data from sensors. Also adding outside and inside temperature to status with rules to take action based on temp or humidity ranges set by user.

    The user could get whatever size relay board they need for their size operation making the system modular based on each users preferences while the coding is universal, and available for modification by each user capable and willingness to share with the community.

    As soon as i get the code to where it is bug free I will share it on my github account under openhab.

    Your projects are great man, you're bringing us into the next generation here!

    You considering doing an automated dosing/PH adjustment setup? I'm looking everywhere but can't find a complete solution, everyone seems to have abandoned their project and left them sub-functional.

    I am working on a ph dosing system but not EC. I found a project abandoned four years ago and I am revamping it to fit into the 20x4 lcd and rotary encoder like the GrowGreen LED Controller make it the GrowGreen Hydro Controller. namaste

    Maybe this repo will help you - his system looks good, unfortunately he opted for a very complicated syringe dosing system instead of peristaltic pumps, but maybe the code is of use to you.

    Love this. Wanted to go this direction (arduino) originally for my stealth fridge but figured I could automate most of what I needed to without it. Watering is the one thing where I havent been able to figure out a way to automate without getting an arduino, and then at that point it would be more beneficial to just convert everything over to being controlled by it. One day...

    I have been working hard on this project. I have developed a three zone seven day schedule system with controls for intake air control, exhaust air control, recirculating air control, Lights on.off control for both regular lighting and Far red availability to schedule and control, Flood & drain and Hydro water controls, CO2 enrichment control, humidity/control, heating and cooling control for all three zones independent of each zone. Each zone can be controlled in detail with reporting real time. I am considering using a rpi3 camera mounted for video input.

    I am working on the rules now and the screens have changed to schedules and room data reporting real time. I will post a few screen shots when i get some time.

    I am thinking about using zwave devices for relays with wifi to communicate to rpi3 and openhab. it may cost more, but more flexible. Hard wiring is still on the table, as well. The issue is, three humidifiers relay control, three ac units relay control, three heaters relay control, and one co2 enrichment system relay control, plus four sensors, temp/humidity and CO2, and three light relays, three hydro relays, three F&D relays, three intake vent relays, three exhaust fan relays, three recirculating fan relays, for a total of 32 relay controls in three zones. Each relay represents a bank of at least 8 relays on a board each for a total of 256 relays minimum and perhaps up to 1024 relays maximum depending on the size of the operation.

    The base screen system is setup, as are the pinouts mostly. It is the rules I am working out now.

    Great stuff @VegasWinner !

    You might think about developing your own remote power switch box for each room. Those zwave controlled outlets are $50 a pop. I bet you could design a multi outlet wifi controlled "power strip" cheaper and better than that! It's the path I was researching. Off the shelf is faster, but way more expensive.

    Either way, great work! When you putting this stuff on github, so we can take a look?

    Blumats work well for automating the watering. They also make a moisture sensor that could possibly be hacked for electronic monitoring

    When I say "automated watering", I mean having a water line hooked up to your rez and you dont have to be there for it to water. Something that can maintain a topped off rez daily while maintaining set parameters for PH, temp, tds etc. For this, arduino is the only route to go it would seem.

    If every grower used Z-Wave devices it would be very easy for the police to find them. Although I would worry about rippers first.

    I used those Blumat tubes and designed my own sensor to go on top. See the Arduino thread in my signature.

    They are not very reliable though. If they don't make proper contact with the soil or the water level in the tube drops more than a little bit, they won't produce accurate measurements.
