Grow/Smoke Report: Greenhouse Seeds Big Bang from single seed center

ok so i can't remember if i did a smoke report or not on this strain or not...

so what the hell...here's one anyway.

details:
Light: 1 600w digital hps system
Soil: fox farm ocean forest
Nutes: fox farm's grow big and tiger bloom (used big bloom in flower) and molasses
a/c to control temps which stayed 82 or under at all times
multiple fans for circulation and to keep the hps cool so it could be placed as close as possible to the plants.

i purchased 1 10 pack of feminized big bang seeds from the single seed center.
arrived in less than 10 days (cant remember how long exactly) in greenhouse breeders pack.

i opened the pack and 6 seeds went straight from there to the soil (no soaking, paper towel, etc.) 6/6 seeds came above soil!

I vegged them out to be 1 1/2 tall (remember ghs claims its 80indica/20sativa).

switched to 12/12...had a hermie but didnt spot the bananas at the time (only a few...nothing major cuz it only made me about 20 seeds total in the end).

ghs also claims that big bang is an extremely large yielder (i forget what the exact number they claim...like 600 g per sq meter or more) and i only ended up with a tad bit over 8oz dry.

in veg i found it to be somewhat sensitive to nutes...it had no issue in flowering however as full strength was fine...veg only could handle 3/4 strength.

my issue with the 80% indica and 20% sativa claim is that i had more sativa dominant phenos than indica ones...i only had 2 of 6 indica dom phenos!

so thats partly to blame for the poor yield (the indica phenos couldnt get as light as the sativa ones) however i doubt i would have gotten even double what i ended up with even if the light was close enough to the indica dom plants.

to top it off the big bang wasnt even anti-anxiety! i harvested them at different times so i got some when trichs were mostly amber...other 50/50 amber cloudy...50/50 cloudy clear, etc...and even the best combination of trichs (i forget what it was i think 50/50 cloudy, amber) at harvest didnt make it anti-anxiety in my book. i do have anxiety by the way.

i found this strain (usually) to make anxiety WORSE. at the time of purchase i didnt understand the differences in thc/cbd/cbn fully but during veg when i read up on it i realized that the big bang is probably bad for anxiety and i was right! it has no cbd in it...only thc and cbn...

more on this below...

Smoke report
Potency: 7
Ease of growth: 7
Yield: 5
Taste: 5
smell: 8.5
effect: 4 (based off what ghs claims this was a complete letdown)

Potency: .2-.3 of this in a glass pipe will get you high for an hr...3-4 puffs on a joint will keep you high for about 1 1/2 hr.

smell: when growing it doesnt have too strong of an odor...ie. without a carbon filter it will smell in your house but outside you wont be able to smell it...so i think thats not too bad at all. when you ruff up the bud and smell closely (with your nose in it) you get this sharp apple smell that smells just wonderful...however the smell of it when sitting out isnt anything spectacular. not bad just not memorable.

taste: the taste is nothing like the smell. i find the smoke to be slightly harsh even though it was dried and cured properly (ie. hung up to dry in a dark/well ventilated room, then into brown grocery bags and burped...then into mason jars and burped) for about 1 month. it can leave a bad taste in ur mouth sometimes...ive grown other strains and cured them with much better results in terms of taste.

effect: ghs claims its anti-anxiety (as i said before). well if anything this strain induces anxiety...and not from being in an uncomfortable atmosphere either! this strain is very racy most of the time...which isnt good for anxiety...this bud tends to make you look at things in a very bad light...makes your thought process very negative usually.

for it being 80 indica and 20 sativa there are very few indica effects...it leans more like 80% sativa if you ask me.

i didnt get what i ordered basically. i want to like ghs for their decent prices but after this purchase from them (my first one) im kind of skeptical about going back to them again until i can see more results like advertised.

just my 2 cents.

overall i'd say the weed gets a 5-6 out of 10 as its not terrible...its just i didnt get an "anti-anxiety" strain nor did a get a large yield as advertised...not even close really.

how disappointing, but thanks for the report, i've noticed this strain being toted for anxiety
which is my issue(along with depression issues)
this really was a 'classic' strain for anxiety, supposedly prescribed in Holland for this purpose
very good detail on your harvest with degrees of ripeness, maybe not a good strain for you
or GH is giving out worse beans, i've seen a lot of negative reviews over the last year

tell me about it. when i first ordered their seeds i was hearing good things...then part way through my grow i realized i seen more complaints than compliments...

could just be not good for me...or i got the wrong seeds...or idk what the deal is...

it's tough making sense of just what you can expect from a strain
i don't think your experience is all that unusual, anxiety/strain is hard to zero in on because MJ can make anxiety worse
i will put up my limited experience on this, and that is the strain you see more smoke reports on, the better, you get many more data points that way
i'm not going to tote Nirvana strains being all that medical, though i did get some pretty good results with their PPP and anxiety
the thing with Nirvana strains is you get a lot of reports posted, i read myself senseless on them
and i got a pretty close match with PPP and the reports
again, not a plug for Nirvana genetics, but the large number of smoke reports on their gear is a big help in figuring out what you will get

i agree with you there. i see more nirvana reports than any other (just about)...

im always curious about strains/breeders i dont hear reviews from but im simply too cautious to blow the $$$ and grow it out to find out its a dud.

many on the forum just say, "try it out for yourself" but its not always that easy with how much genetics cost these days.

Good call Sm0key,
I hope you dont mind me throwing my two cents in with your smoke report. I too grew the big bang due to it's anti-anxiety properties. Having OCD and an anxiety disorder I was looking for the same thing. I agree, it is not anti-anxiety. It actually makes my heart race, and gives me a "roller coaster" like feeling in my chest. In other words, very racy. I have also experienced a slight phasing effect which wound me up, and delayed perception. I also concur that the yield sucked, and the smoke is indeed slightly harsh. I found it serendipitous that the high was only 1-1.5 hrs, because I was ready to come down. Finally, it makes me depressed as shit the next day. In short, it sucks... For people looking for a cure to our specific set of symptoms, look elsewhere.
