Growing in a tree

Oh yeah, one more thing.

Instead of trimming off the entire top of the tree, why not just trim out the south facing side, leaving the north facing side? That way you can kinda "tuck" the plant in there. It still gets all the sun it needs, but the original plant adds to it's security and camo.

they also talked about boring a hole into the tree to let the tree bring water to the plants. You would plant your seed I think in a pot and let the roots grow down into the hole you bore, The tree will bring water and nutrients to your plant
When I started back in the stone age I read that book til it fell to pieces. WTF happened to Mel Frank (lead author)? VERY smart guy who explained the reasons behind things. Yes MUCH of that info needed to be changed, but he and Ed made all this seem possible to the masses. THank you Mel, wherever you are. :bigjoint:

Yes in theory the "hole in the tree" works because of capillary action...very likely to cause the tree to rot, break, maybe get a bad beetle infestation. please don't kill your trees :dunce:

You are so close to getting me 100% over my fear of heights! +rep of course.
I do have the fear of heights, but not enough to keep me grounded.

Funny thing is now that I have potato body it's so much harder to climb like potatoman!

We've got live oaks, cedar (juniper really), mesquite, cedar elm and a bunch of others but no pines. I'm from Minnesnowta/Wisconsin originally so i climbed many as a kid. Branches to the bottom (think pine) make it so much easier...I do have a few Live oaks picked out though, and sometimes the cedar fall over and grow sideways...good cammo and good stairs to other trees.

oh yeah, fat men in tall trees don't mix well... especially in a pine, cedar, soft wood species.... don't kill yourself for bud people :dunce:

This is a good idea i thought about doing this my self, putting your plant in a cammo bucket 18ltr used in carp fishing might give a couple of plant's ago with that this year.

That's awesome. I am glad you planted hardy strains because they took a fucking beating. Do you have anymore picture from a distance looking at the tree, I would be stoked if you did.
+REP btw

Your way seemed to work great btw, I just wanted to throw this out there. As far as watering goes, Just grab 3/4 inch clear plastic tubing. Hook however many feet of that up to a One way siphon pump. You know like ythe type you pump out an aquarium with. Strap that up to the top with a diffuser or irrigation head at the top with tubes feeding into each pot. That way you just have to drag the five gallon bucket to the bottom of the tree and hand pump it up to the pots. The first time your going to need A LOT of water but after its in there it there. Just empty the five gallon bucket up and you'll know the plants got their five gallons of water.
I like this idea and you could also plant a vine our something around the bottom of the tree so that when it grows up the tree it will hide the plastic tubing. if you had a little deck like thing in the tree you could use it multiple years. You could camouflage the deck and tubing with spray paint and just have to go up there to check it out every once in awhile. you could even use a tree climber deer stand and put your plants on those

which you could also easily move up and down the tree or even to a new tree if needed. get 10 of these suckers up in few trees and you got yourself a good little harvest. you could even cut the hoses short so they dont go all the way down to the base so you would have to climb up ten feet or into the base branches of the tree so its less noticeable at eye level. If you know how to weld or know someone who does you can make those movable deer stands for about 30 $. Just some thoughts I had oh and always use a safety belt when trying this stuff <<< its not like there is going to be anybody around if you fall... you'll be like that old lady whos yelling "I've fallen but I cant get up!":blsmoke:
