I was in the woods and i found this huge pond which i knew about but didnt think it was that big and there is one island its maybe the size of a house and its real shallow waters so idk if i should grow there

Does the island ever get underwater? If so, I would go into pots. If not, into the ground.
And as far as how many, it's according to how much sun you have.

i dont think that it goes under water bc some big ass trees are on it i might trim it to get sun light and for water should i use the lake water or collect rain water

Use the closest. easiest to get water. Unless it is just plain pond scum, it will work. You may have to adjust your soil mix if it's crazy ph one way or the other.
