Growing Outside In Winter

Say you have a greenhouse or coldframe. You have artificial heat. Could you grow outdoors in the winter. In Illinois. The plants would never freeze. What do you guys think:?:

I'm thinkin the light cycles would be off, since its already past the autumnal equinox, and the days are shorter than the nights... Maybe if you started a few indoors and then moved them outside to flower, or you had a mom and cut clones to put outside. Either way, I don't think you can veg outside.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry I forgot to add that. They would be put outside only to flower. They would be vegged indoors. I think it would work but I wonder how intense is the light.
