Had Problems

I'm almost done with my first attempt at growing. I'm into the flowering stage and things seem to have picked up. As it turns out the seeds I got look to be some pretty good chronic, unfortunately a mistake I made fucked up this grow, but it’s all good.

I started with a box I built myself. Just some wood and crap from Home-Depot.

I threw in a homemade batwing reflector. I made it out of sheet metal, and used 2 90-degree brackets to hold its shape. As for the lights, I used 2 70w HPS'. I have a third ballast [also 70w] that I didn't use this time, but I will be putting it in for the next grow [assuming I can work with the heat].

All the hydro was kept up top.

I made my mistake with the soil. I got a kind that had nutrients in it, but figured if I flushed it out all would be good. That wasn't so true. Though things did start out okay.

They sprouted after a few days, and though one came out a little weird they started growing well.

It seemed by the rate of growth and a small difference in colour that the plants were different strains. I was given the seeds by a friend and told they were two different strains, but both were good.

This is my last picture before flowering. From here on out shit went to hell. They got burned from the nutrients and I though they were done. I kept them though, worked with them and flowered them early.

It all worked out in a way I guess. A few weeks into 12/12 and I started to see some buds forming. Everything looked good, and they just kept getting nicer and nicer. Now I’ve got some fat buds. These pictures are a couple days old so they’ve gotten a bit thicker and snowier. I'll take some new ones tomorrow [its dark right now].

Looks like it’s gonna be decent bud. I won’t get a lot, but that’s okay. I know my setup works, and that I can pull off a nice grow next time around.

Tell me what you think.

Looking good! How long did you veg for and how long have you been flowering?

looks like your ladies stretched for the light early on. I made the same mistake. Might move them closer to the light when they're young next time. And you learned on the nute thing.

The growing space is H32" W24" D16". Total box height is 44" though, giving me some room on top for hydro and underneith for a fermentation container to produce carbon dioxode [not used this grow]. As for the plants, I can't say exactly with the screen and all, but they're not too big. I'd say 22" aprox.

Veg was probably about 70 days, during which time they were seriously stunted [IMO] so they never got to see their full potential [my fault]. And I think they should be 5 weeks flowering come saturday [today being tuesday].

And you're right about the lights. I was so nervous about heat and burning them that I can now tell I kept too much distance. But I don't think I would've done anything different even if I was told to, simply because I had to see for myself to get over my paranoia of burning the place down.

I can't say for sure if it was the nutes I'm just assuming. What happened was the youngest leaves began turning yellow and shriveling up, this worked it's way up the plant slowly, and as soon as it started the rate of growth went down. When it killed off some major leaves I threw it into 12/12 figuring I was better off taking my chances rather than just letting it die. Plus I fgured if it was the nutes flowering it would stop it in it's tracks saving what it had left [which is what seemed to happen]. And about a week or two into 12/12 the yellowing stopped and the buds started coming fast, plus they shot up in height a bit too. Would you guys say nutes? Maybe too much heat? [heats been my biggest battle with the two lights, next grow I'm doubling to a 100cfm exhaust]

Over all it was a long process with some disappointing times and some good times [mainly now].

More pictures comming.
