Im thinking of buying a hair salon for the wife to work in and maybe sell the cleaning business that she has.

She is over the cleaning and i carnt say i blame her. She is not a hair dresser but can manage, answer phones, do paper work, stock control etc.

We dont need to make a fortune out of the venture, just a modest wage for her.

Is there anyone on here that is either a hairdresser or owns a salon? I have a few questions.

Back in the 80's I bought 3 salons as a tax dodge

it started as a joke but proved to be a lot more work than growing weed

a lot of hidden social work

as we never advertised but used pr heaps

supported the local girls sports team

the local fashion club, etc

we were constantly pressured by big companies to side with

but never did

used part time staff and cheap students

we worked on volume and great deals

get a trim 'get him done for free' was great

always ashame to see a 50 yo crone blowing her monthly wage on her hair

but none on her croc. skin ..lol

I owned the biz, but rented out the chairs ...a french thing I'm told

then one day this art student applied henna to this girls head

that was very popular, until I took her to bed and it all came of on the pillow lol

local parties, sports and social events are your money makers

Ive heard of renting the chairs, commission and wage.

To be honest i would of thought commission only on the same deal as Tattooist use, 60/40 (or thereabouts) split would of been used widely but doesn't seem to be at all.

To sell your products did you then have them on a commission or?


Thanks for ur insights.

Any one else out there with Salon experience?

not at all

'just give me the rent!'

was what I said a lot

we saw them as sub contractors / or tenants

the real deal was most/all of the help

was accustomed to this rent a chair deal

I later used the same thing with my trimmers

but caused much hassle

Does she pay her own taxs (works under her own business number) or does the salon owner?

Its great generally....peaceful,tolerant and down to earth,great air and water and only 5 million people vs 65 ish in UK.The same twats are in charge unfortunately so the chances of me or my kids buying a house here diminish daily as the prices rise.It was really cheap 20 yrs ago when i arrived but a beers the same price as London here now.I couldnt go back to the UK now though,its just way too busy for me for anything but a visit these days.
