Hard lessons learned during first grow

Im about a week away from harvesting my very first grow and felt like sharing my experience for others and to hopefully get some feedback and more advice.

I ordered Blue Mystics from Nirvana on a recommendation because they have low odor. As soon as they arrived I learned my first hard lesson: Nothing fancy to germinate, just put the seeds in damp soil and let nature work. I tried the paper towel and the cup of water methods, respectivley, and had low sprout rates. Maybe it was just me but every seed that has gone right into soil has sprouted. go figure.

My setup was using FFOF, 600watts, and 3 gallon pots. Lesson 2: Veg in smaller pots and then repot into at least 5 gallons when switching to flower. A fresh 5 gallons half way thru the process will make your nutrient situation alot better and require less waterings. I vegged for 2 months and the soil was basically spent by the time I switched to flower. Which brings us to Lesson 3: Nutrients. I started using the miraclegro individual packets which are 24-8-16. A little nute burn after the first feed but the plants responded really well. I opened the checking account up to buy some Fox farms grow big and big bloom after reading how terrible folks thought miraclegro is. Turns out Big Bloom is staight acid and Ive been playing catch-up with my PH and nute defeciencies ever since the feed 3 weeks into flower. One plant lost all its leaves and I was close to leaving it for dead. I repotted and just hoped for anything. The other withstood the shock better but has been fighting K lockout ever since. I'll know for sure in week a about my yield but going by pics, I feel my buds are smallish. I Fimmed early on so hopefully the four colas will add up. Surprisingly, the plant that I had chalked up for dead, was basically in a coma for 2 weeks but came back strong. Her buds look larger and more dense than the other. I attribute it to the fresh soil. She's about 2 weeks behind. I found that doing a Lime treatment with epsom salts every 3 weeks helps avoid any cal/mag issues.

Lesson 4
: The Odor neutral aspect of Blue Mystic is iffy in my opinion. One day my grow space will smell pretty pugent the next day not so much.It definitly has an unique sweet/sour compared to the Master Kush I have 5 weeks into flower.

Conclusions: I have few more BMs recently switched to flower, another MK, and 2 Blackberry in vegg. Im experimenting with dif't pruning styles and trying to master cloning. My indoor setup is real legit but I just put a seedling outdoor just to learn the difference in growing styles. Experience is the best teacher but it can be frustrating after investing in all the material. Ill be happy with anything over an oz. off this first plant but was definitly hoping for 3.5 at one point given the 2 month vegg. Onwards and upwards, hopefully this can be of some advice to fellow noobs and garner some quality feedback from the masters around here!

Great post.
I have noticed the warmer my closet is the stronger the skunk smell was.
In the low 70's is was barely noticeable.
In the mid to upper 80's is was WAY stronger.
I stay around 75 lights on and the 4" filter/fan does the trick with ease.
