Harvest Time

We harvested 1 and a half plants yesterday. The half because we'd already smoked half a plant on the build-up to the initial harvest. In wet-weight off the whole plant we got 70 grammes (and it is one of our medium-sized plants) the other one that we smoked quite a bit of was left at 40 grammes wet-weight.

Another two are going to get the chop today which will leave 15 still flowering...

We aren't using cardboard boxes to dry as the amount of bud we are going to be drying it would be difficult to get a box or boxes the right size. So we're hanging them in a cupboard space. The cupboard has a curtain instead of a door. Will this be okay, or will drying time be accelerated too much?

Not the curtain... the amount of oxygen accessing the bud. It's nice and dark in there, around room temp'. Sound okay?

From what i've smoked so far I can tell you that it is a really nice smoke... light green, full of crystals and extra, extra sticky. After handling the plants, between my fingers and the scissors I managed to roll up a thin piece of hash. Not bad off four plants. What we may lack in yield we've certainly made up for in quality. What i've smoked so far has been the weaker, under developed buds and me and my mate have been smoking it for about 2 weeks. Still at it now, I just super dry a bit on the radiator to see me through while the rest of my stash hangs in open air. We've already made a couple of (albeit very small) sales of the super-dried stuff and have received excellent feed-back. The one bloke said that it left him dribbling, and he has no idea where the weed came from, just a regular smoker. Really looking forward to the prime buds.

I guess you answered my how was it question! I'm wondering if I'll be able to handle my widow when she blooms, as in thar she blooms! Remember, I'm not a mega stoner like you, I'm probably a huge lightweight. There was a day when I'd smoke em under the table, but not lately. I'll Have to ease into it, like one hit and wait and then two and so on, anyway thi grand experiment continues!

Wow, you've got it the best... my stash would last forever. There are certain strains that give me a decent hit after ingesting about a third of a gramme... Cheese is the one though, I'm sure somehow, somewhere you guys will manage one day to get a hold of this super strain. Once smoked you really can't imagine wanting to smoke anything else... intensely psychological and physical often both at once...

Congrates Skunkush! I hope to be harvesting a couple plants soon and hope to get your yield! How tall were they at harvest time?

Enjoy the smoke!

Between 3 and 4 ft. I don't know my yield yet as those figures are from wet-weight only. I'm hoping that they'll lose just under half their weight through drying... it all depends on the density of the bud... some buds will lose more weight than others...

Congratulations on your successful grow Skunk.
I still have a couple months to go.
If all goes well, I'll be having a Merry Christmas indeed. :-)

Thanks crickit... It's taken since germination on 6th August... 24 days veg... and so far 58 days flower... 4 out of 19 plants have been harvested. A couple of the plants there will last till the 9th week of flower cycle. We also have another 30 plants that will be ready in 5-6 weeks, another 10 that will be ready a couple of weeks later. We've also got 20 clones coming through and also a further 30 seeds that have germinated and are starting to veg. We're a regular little factory now. Just gotta wait to raise some cash so that we can make the necessary improvements to both the flowering and vegging rooms.

I'll take some pic's of the drying bud tomorrow as another 1 or 2 plants should be ready for the chop.

I used to weigh fresh manicured buds to compare to the dried weight, and for me it was always 22-24 percent.

Congrats on your success!

Thanks Pot', discovered that for myself now... although we did manage a little over 25%. We were a bit gutted at first, but we have harvested the weaker plants and the rest are on their 60th day flowering. We've got another batch coming through in 5 weeks time so we'll have another one in before christmas.

Thanks again Pot'. I actually did some more reading on the subject of dry weight compared to wet, and while reading I came across the fact that thc levels are actually doubled when you use a 12 hour light during flower rather than a 10. Mine have been getting 12 hours and 20 minutes light most of the way through, sometimes we'd give them an extra 45 mins of light. Do you think it's best to be strict on the time scale, or is it okay to give them varying extra minutes past the 12 hour schedule?

9 weeks flower tomorrow and we're leaving the plants as long as we can. They're all knotting up nicely and we believe the extra yield will be worth the wait. We estimate quickly approaching the 10 weeks flower before we harvest the main crop. I believe we have lost out on yield (and potency?) by harvesting some of the plants on and just after the 8th week. Luckily, we have harvested the weakest looking plants, and in dry weight we have pulled about 4 oz off 7 plants. not very good... but like I say they were our 7 weakest plants.

The final 12 will be harvested in 2 stages, 6 just after 9 weeks, and 6 just before 10 weeks... again we'll take the weakest first. I'll take pic's after the first main harvest.

I've been selling the bud we've already harvested to a few select people, and have received excellent feed-back. I've been charging high prices too. I've grown some highly resinous plants that are covered in thc, that is something worth it's weight in gold. I'm surprised at the quality of the bud, it's not as good as cheese but i'd rate it up there with the top strains.

What happens if you wait too long to harvest? Is there such a thing? And if I'm looking under a jeweler's loop (no microscope available), what will I look for to know the exact moment of perfection?

i have yet to see "over-ripened" bud.
