Having Trouble Germenating Seeds

Hey y'all it's been so long since I posted in here but anyway here's the scenario. Seeds are about three yrs old tried germing the paper towel way but fail, let seeds set in water for 24hr but get a white film or cloudy water are my seeds bad or am I dumb..... never had this issue...

I am not 100% sure but I believe that the white film or "white cloudy water" is an indication that the interior of the seeds are dissolving. One could guess either bad seeds or bad water if temp is good.

I don't like soaking them they can suffocate. Did you keep the paper towel method try warm and dark? I set mine on top on my refrigerator to soak up warmth from the compressor, almost 100%. I don't think 3 years is long enough to go bad, I germed seeds from 1979 a few years ago with 100% success.

What's the water source?

Bet it's low to no dissolved O2 in it!

Don't use distilled for popping any seed. If your using RO. You had better have bubblers in the res or holding tank. Tap water that's left to sit for chlorine removal, also looses it's dissolved o2. Bubbling that tap will keep o2 at premium levels, and remove that chlorine faster...

Don't soak, many seed breeders won't honor any guarantee if you do.

Adding a few drops of H2O2 to the water is a good idea....

with old dry favorite seeds I scarify them first

insert a sheet of builders sandpaper to a jar

drop in seeds shake the dry seeds for a minute to leave scrapes? in the seed shell

I then drop them to a jar of warm water and alowe vera juice, the juice acts as a surfactant

indeed seeds do drown, after about 4-6 maybe 8 hours in you case or if any sink

remove to a damp towel/sponge and leave in a warm place to germ

I had a couple seeds in a paper towel for about a week nd they didn't germinate so I thought fuck it and I gave them a lil squeeze, just to crack the seed open nd two days later bobs ur uncle sprouted lyk any other seed.
