Heading for the finish line..... (don't blow it).

Well, it's that time of year. All are ladies are heading for the finish line. Throwing out hairs, plumping up and getting frosty. I notice from reading threads from each of the different forums; allot of people are convinced they can force bigger, better buds by dumping sh*t loads of ferts in Mary's medium -wheter it be soil or water. Stuff like 0-50-30 NPK.
.
Don't be guilty of this practice. Every plant has a genetic potential, it either is or isn't a frosty kind of girl. Some plants like White Widow, frost over to the point, they look as though someone poured a 5 lb bag of sugar on them. Others, you have to look & up close to see any frosting. When smoked, they both may be just as chronic - with or without the frosty looking buddage.
.
Don't get hung up on looks alone. If you started with good genetics - seeds of quality from a reputable breeder - you'll end up with what you paid for. If you started with mystery bag seed - it's a crap shoot.
.
No amount of fertilizers will make shitty genetics into Chronic Buds. The practice of dumping Mega-Ferts on Mary, in the hopes of bigger buds is a waste of time & money.
.
Mary takes in what she needs, as she needs it, in nature. If you force feed her 0-50-30 NPK ferts during flowering, she takes in what she needs, then starts putting the extra anywhere she can. Storing all that NPK she will not use, in her tissues from top to bottom. I call it Toxic Plant Sydrome - and Man does it taste like sh*t. Not only will you be smoking bud later, you'll be smoking unused - stored NPK ferts too - YUCK.....
.
So Keep it Real....Organic.... Simple & Reasonable.... Quality not Quantity..... :weed:

Ohsogreen speaks the truth on this part my friends. Don't get duped into the mentality of MORE is BETTER and I gotta dump tons of shit (which it is) on your kids trying to make them huge on the last lap of the race. Keep a cool head and take a deep breath and just use the basics at this point.

All I have been given my girls the last two weeks and will continue for the last 5 is MOLASSES every other watering. My buds this year are getting so plump it's unreal and the smell is insane.

I have friends dumping tons of crap on their kids trying to make them big and they refuse to listen to me....

I had t his exact arguement the other day with a friend cause the grow store tried telling him molasses takes a week to break down and be absored and of course wanted to sell him some stuff that costs 3X more.

Well I don't know if that part is true about the molasses break down time but even if it does so what! If you have been feeding your kids this all along it really doesn't matter does it?

I have learned to not listen to the grown stores as much as I used to and listen to people who aren't giving me an anwer for profit. Remember (KIS)
really always works the best in the end.

Here is a sneek peek of what I'm talking about!

MrGreenBudz.... That is an absolutely beautiful cola. All those Bat Guano Teas you took the time to hand craft, are sure paying off now. I consider them Therapy also.
.
Thanks to the micro-beaties you inoculated your soil with, the insoluble P in your high P guano teas, will break down in the soil, in just under two months. Normally, that insolube P would have taken three of four months to completely break down. So, it would have still been converting long after the harvest was done. Myco fungi are the Bomb....
.
Oh and about the molasses. I week for a complete breakdown in soil, if not bubbled into a tea, sounds about right. Bubbling it, converts it at about a 3 to 1 ratio. One day of bubbling equals three in the ground. So, to all of you that don't own a five gallon bucket, a cheap aquarium air pump & stone - it's a good investment.
.
Well, keep up the good work &

the last 2-3 wks.,all I do is spray 'em down with straight water, to wash off the residual E.J.cocktail.
.
S.c.mtn.hillbilly...... Mary grown in properly prepared / amended soil has no problem coasting to the finish line. I feel sorry for all those growers, who will toxically load up Mary - with shit like 0-50-30 Yuck....
.
In the end, all their hard work - will produce buddage that smokes harsh.
.
Quality over Quanity....see attached pics : of two different Skunk # 1 plants (flowering - day 17) - first two taken mid-day (all buds bigger than my thumb), third pic taken at sunset (a slightly shorter, busher girl), last pic - culled lower limbs - laying on my garage floor.
.
Keep the Faith....Organics are the Shit !!!!

Just wanted to post a few more pics of the girls. Some are anywhere from 3-5 wks out right now. Again all I have used is pure organics, tea's, SPT, molasses and organic soluable seaweed. At this point on all I am giving them is molasses 3 times a week. It's been getting cold this last week sleeping in the tent and I look forward to morning and a HOT cup of jo. At times I feel I'm getting to old to do this shit but I think this shit is what keeps me young, lol!

Holy crap, Mr. Green! I think I'm gonna make an appointment with you, so you can school my ass. Those are awesome.

So, I'd top-dressed all my girls about three weeks ago with my Happy Frog Japanese maple fert. They've gotten a full week of nothing but plain water, then have had two waterings with my tea, but very dilute. I've been debating as to whether or not I should give them a stronger tea, just plain water, or water with molasses but no teas at this stage. I don't have any really recent (before I went out of town week before last) pix right now. Gotta head out to North Highlands in a while, so I wouldn't have a chance to take any pix til this afternoon.

Anyway, one of my Bagseed Girls has been flowering since the first week of August, the rest are at about a month into it. Would you kind gentlemen recommend switching to that alternating schedule of water and molasses tea at this point? Would you recommend any more top-dressings?

I would say it depends on how many weeks do you have left until you do your first cut? If you are say 3 weeks away from doing your first cut I would not use anything but molasses.

You can use molasses up til the end unlike ferts you don't need to flush or at least I have always used molasses this way and never had problems.

I have a few that are still around the 5 th week mark and could give them 1 or 2 more batches of tea but at this point 1 or 2 more fertilizing won't do much more so I figure no need and just do the molasses on all plus it's easier and I'm getting tired, lol!

If you are using tea's keep it simple and don't give them to much or more than you have been doing. Just keep the molasses flowing as it's their lifeblood at this point until the end.

Remember don't try to go overboard the last weeks and mess it up. KEEP IT SIMPLE:]

Seamaiden..... These are a few pics of some of my girls, all Skunk # 1, from a patch in the woods, a few minutes drive from the Ohsogreen Plantation.
.
Flowering Day 23, last fertilizing was on Day 21, from here on out, nothing but SPT & Molasses mix teas.

Yowee! Those look mahvelous, dahlink.

I don't know when my girls are going to finish, but I do know our growing season up here is coming to a close by next month. I guess I'll need to take some time to get some pictures if that would help sort how much longer they might have. They still seem to be growing, not vertically like I read people talking about, but the buds seem to be thickening up.

Yes that is good. The plant by this point should have basically stopped growing as it's no longer in a veg "grow state" and is focusing on flowering. Buds will be getting fuller, fatter and filling in like crazy as the plant knows it's lifecycle is coming to a close and is hurrying to finish up.

How much time they have depends on what strain they are as a more or pure sativa will flower and finish much later than a indica which is going to finish much earlier.

What percentage of hairs are white yet? Sorry I can't be more helpful it really all depends on the above and weather as that will also effect them.

I understand. As with aquaria, this is not a hard and fast science, it is as much art, wouldn't you agree? (I think that's why it speaks to us on a more basic level, to garden and grow, too.)

I have a cheap 30x scope, but haven't tried to check out the hairs yet. I find the percentages that people talk about a little confusing at this point (while I'm trying to learn about lighting so I can tell my husband what I need for a winter season indoor set-up). I guess I should go ahead and start trying to use the thing, huh? I don't know how people get pictures through those scopes, though.

The bottom of an aquarium that's got anaerobic areas. :D That's EXACTLY what it smells like.

Did you know that dead run never smells like dead fish, but like the worst bad breath you could EVER imagine?

Ok, I began using your tip a few weeks ago, with the SPT, of leaving the cap slightly loose, and it's REALLY improved the smell. Of course.. I like the smell of aquariums, so I might just tighten it back up again.

If I hadn't already worked for Petco in the early 90s and knew about their policies, then the answer would be an emphatic YES. :D
