help 100% perlite hempy

Can you overwater a 100% hempy?
I germinated my seed in straight perlite i water heavily daily and a week later the cotyledons are starting to brown up.The first set of true leaves are semi wilting but green the stem is light purple. Feeding 1/4 15-30-15 fertilizer when the first set of true leaves appeared ph ~ 6 with GH ph kit the symptoms started before i gave fertilizers.

I think you can over water in the beginning. It won't take as much water since the reservoir will nit have roots draining it. I used 1.5 gallon pots and during the first couple weeks i only watered a pint or so a day. After the roots hit the bottom and you see the growth explosion, then i watered with about 25 percent runoff. I watered daily the whole run.

Thank you for the fast reply,
my seedling is in a solo cup the hole is 1" from the bottom which gives 3 inches of perlite not sitting in water. I also add h202 to every watering and the fact that I change the reservoir every day should it make it less prone to become stagnant and have a high air to water ratio? I washed the perlite before using.

I don't think you need h202 each watering. I never used it at all. The perlite allows air to stuck through it as the water drains out the hole. It works as a vacuum drawing air in from the top. You shouldn't have to drain the reservoir each day. When you put new liquid in, the old liquid that might be in the bottom will be forced out the hole. I started mine in solo cups the first few plants, then realized it was a pain in the ass to transplant them if there isn't a huge root ball. I started seeds in rockwool after that then put directly into their larger container. Much easier and less stressful to the roots. I had some plants that sprouted on the floor from a spilled pot with a bunch of seeds that wouldn't germinate. I found them growing on concrete so i put them in perlite 2 litres and they grew nicely.

There's your problem right there mate.

1 inch res in the solo cup is probably another factor. That's way too big for a seedling.

The hempy res is meant to be consumed quickly by the plant. Obviously, the plant can't do this in the early stages which is why you don't usually hempy until after the solo cup stage. If you do hempy from seed, be very careful! The res will not even be touched by the roots for days. When the roots do get there, they are not going to be drinking much so the res should be quite shallow (scaled down from a full sized hempy is what I would do personally - 1/4" to 1/8" or thereabouts).

I germ in a 3gal bucket of perlite,I use 33% vermiculite in the top 3/4 of the bucket, the very bottom is 100% perlite.Put a drain hole 1inch from bottom. The vermiculite will hold some moisture unlike perlite, this will allow the roots to grow, until they reach the resivoir at the bottom of the bucket.I use this method because it eliminates transplanting.

thanks for the reply,
Thats why i change the reservoir every day so it doesn't become stagnant until the root ball gets big enough.

Keep in mind, those temps are on the low side for stimulating metabolism.I always have best/fastest growth between,77-82.that seems to be the sweetspot,at least in my experience.I too think a 1inch res in a solo cup is too much, and probably your problem.Honestly at that stage I would not use a res just some vermiculite. If you transplant into something bigger, you will need a res.

thanks for the reply,
should i just empty the reservoir when i water? tilting it util no more water comes out the hole?

The hempy res is not really designed to be changed. It's designed for the plant to drink without drowning the roots. If you were to scale your solo cup hempy with a 1 inch res up to a 5 gal hempy, the res would be FRIGGEN HUGE!!! lol

Hempy is advanced growing. It's borderline insane letting your roots sit in un-aerated runoff. That said, once you get the first tight ass rootball established, hempy is the shit. IMVHO :bigjoint:

your nutes are way too strong in my opinion. you got a EC or ppm reading? i'm thinking more like 1/8 dose for those little ones.

If that works for you, yeah for sure mate. Easier to just punch holes in the bottom and continue your current schedule. When it needs more than one feed per day, you have hungry roots and they'll benefit greatly from a hempy upgrade :bigjoint:

Rkymtn has a very good point too. Might want to check how strong your 1/4 strength nute doses actually are.

I dont have a ppm or ec meter but I think they are ok no sighs of nute burn yet and all the other symptoms where there before i added any fertilizer and they didn't get worse.

I use Plant-Prod ultimate 15-30-15 my water has almost no ppm in it i think because i used a pool water test strips with pads for ppm ph and other things i know it's not good but it's all i got wish is better then nothing.

These things work well mate. Well worth the $5 AUD ($3.50'ish USD). I have this and a hm tds-3. Wasted my coin on the much more expensive hm IMVHO. You can buy like 6-8 of these to one hm here :bigjoint:

I am not familiar with your nutes sorry mate. I'd backoff to 1/8 strength like rkymtnman suggested and work up from there. Even more so since you're flying blind without a ppm meter.
Thanks i just bought the ph + ppm meter on ebay.im a bit confused soo i wouldnt have problems with daily watering if i had drainge holes on bottom and transplant when root bound to hempy like say 3gallon with a hole 1" from the bottom and water daily?
Wouldnt i need to water more then once a day before it gets root bound?

And sorry for repeated questions im french trying to understand all of this... I seem to kill all my plant waisted soooo much money :C i would do coco or ffof or at least start with rockwool but i cant get any only perlite and cheap soil that dont say ph.

if i used say 50/50 perlite vermiculite with drainage holes at the bottom to start my seeds how often should i water? is it easy to overwater?Should i go by weight?
