help deciding what leds to get the most yield

hello, i want to have a 2 square foot area that woud be around 3 feet tal, for a plant that i want to have a couple ounce harvest from, or as much as possible. i just wanted to have 1 plant and i would veg it until it was about 2 feet, but i am going to lst it so it will begin to flower when it hits the side wall. i was thinking about getting 2 90 watt ufo lights for this area.

i want your advice if i should get one blue light and one flower light, or if you think i could be fine with 2 flower lights that would have a combined 18, 1 watt blue leds. i dont want to comprimise plant health.

i have very healthy organic soil and i keep biological activity up with aerated tea

only buy a flowering light most of them have the blue/white spectrum in them. 40+watts (true watts) per sq.ft and you can hope for 1.5oz in you small space. Realistically you could get 1oz every 3 months if you start your seeds so that they are ready to transplant as soon as you harvest. Do not spend money on a veg light for such small operation.

the two ufo's would work or just like a blackstar 240(at your own risk) but i feel like under 300 its not too much of a risk if it lasts a year, w/ warrenty

Don't worry about the veg light as Enduro said. I went with a flowering light H350 Magenta and my grow is doing fine so far. I'm on Day 9.

thank you guys. i was actually looking at the blackstar 240w birdman, but what turned me off was the 3w led's i didnt want the loss of actual watts drawn. ill probably go with 2 of these ufo's

nice and cheap, with a 2 year warranty!
Your not going to be happy with their flowering performance IMO..........if you want to go UFO this would be your best bet http://www.bsled.com/led-grow-light/sp151d-140w.html......and their other panels are pretty good chinese quality for the money...........good luck

i dont think 3w chips are the most efficient for my situation, i dont need more penetration and since they consume about 1.5 - 2 watts of power i suspect that 3 1 watt led's would cast more light.
but with that being said i find their website atrocious, i cant find any info on that light such as price to know if i could even consider it as an option. and i wasnt able to determine if the chips were 3watt3 chip led's or 3watt led's it makes a big difference too
http://ledgrowlightsreview.org/1w-vs-3w-vs-3w-3chip-in-led-growing-lights/
thank you for your input on a better brand of light, my mindset right now thought is more led's will create more yield and if i have to pay a little more for a better light and cant have as many led's inside the area, it will decrease yields
please correct me if im wrong, i love learning from my mistakes. (seriously)

thanks everyone for stopping in!

well i just saw that a moderator needs to review my post befor it goes on (maybe because i used the quote function) so ill repost without a quote and see if it gets through

"i had typed a long reply but it seems to have not posted, so here goes again
i prefer to use 1 watt led's because of the watts they consume, they only use between 1.5 and 2 watts each.
http://ledgrowlightsreview.org/1w-vs-3w-vs-3w-3chip-in-led-growing-lights/
so i assume that 3 1 watt led's would have more light output
the ufo that you linked didnt have a price on the website but i saw it on another site for almost 500 euros that is waaay more than i wanna spend.
thank you for letting me know about them, but i have the mindset that more (less quality maybe) led's will give me a better harvest than less high power ones.
correct me if i am wrong i lover learning from my mistakes, it happens enough.
thanks for stopping by!"

bilgerat i am glad you mentioned the h350 magneta, that light is veryintresting. i like the idea but am scared to death to try that as a sole light. let us know how you do when you have buds for it to penetrate through, it definately seems like that led could have more grams/watt than most the others but theyre just so expensive to get going

You're smart to not put 3W diodes in your grow space, they would definitely be too intense with the height restriction that you have.
1W diodes are the way to go for your needs, but I would steer far clear of the UFO's you were looking at on amazon.
I've owned one of those cheap UFO lights before, wasn't happy with it, and sold it off on eBay.
For LED lights with 1W diodes, the best that you're going to find is ProSource (http://www.prosourceworldwide.com).
One of their 90W Illuminators might be just what your looking for, but I'd strongly recommend the 180W Illuminator.
First, the 180W Illuminator is on sale for $100 off it regular price until Sept. 10th, so you can pick one up for an even $500 right now.
Second, I own six of the 180W Illuminators, and they are extremely effective and reliable.
Not too mention that they come with a 3 year warranty and a 90 day money back guarantee.
If you are interested in ProSource's lights, let me know, and I can tell you how to also get free shipping on your order.

I took the plunge and realized the risk but hopefully it will pay off. I have updates regularly and comparing my growth rates to others, I'd say they are growing quite vigorously.

do you have a theory of why you got beter results with those led's in particular? and when you bought a cheap one did it start out initially good and then get crummier(as with poor heat-sink led's)?
i am have a hard time imagining it out producing 2:1 the one i linked, but i am here to learn from others so ill keep an open mind.

well if anyone wants to hear a conclusion, i am going to buy 2 of these lights from lighthouse hydroponics sold through gotham hydro. i found decent reviews and they have a uv led.

i am going to buy the first one tomorrow. if i have a bad time ill make sure to let you know.
PM me if your still looking for a light, BS500 2012 used 6hrs.

When it comes down to it, your best way to know what you're going to yield from a unit is grams per watt. If you have a reference from the past of what your grams per watt are from your growing style, just multiply that by how many watt unit you're going to get. Not how many watts the unit says it's the "equivalent" of, but the wattage draw. For example. CLW says their 200w Solar Storm is about the equivalent of a 400 w HID. Their 200w unit is made up of 40 five watt diodes, but the actual draw is 160 watts. Use 160 watts as your wattage to calculate grams per watt. Don't let marketing get in the way of understanding the equation of 'what you put in and what you get out.'
