O.k. guys, I need to tap into the amazing RIU brain-trust a bit. I am trying to decide between the BlackStar 240w and the BlackStar Chrome 180w.

Here's my setup (in a nutshell):

2X2X4 Mylar grow tent.
5 Gal DWC
4'' exaust w/ carbon filter
1 plant at a time

my current lights are (2) 13w 3-band leds and (2) 13w 6500k CFLs. (I'm in the seedling stage so, it's all good for now but, soon I'm going to need more light)

So my first option is:

And the secon is:
http://www.gothamhydroponics.com/led-grow-lights/lighthouse-hydro-blackstar-chrome-180w-led-grow-light-fsf.html

I am open to other suggestions in this price range.

Thanks guys, I know you won't let me down.
Stay lifted.:eyesmoke:

You should take a peek round the first page of the forum mate, there is a thread halfway down with a Blackstar disassembly and discussion.

Seems there are better options. The best option if you have the time and inclination is DIY. ;)

Did quick search http://www.aliexpress.com/item/BlackStar-LED-grow-light-240W/537290491.html

I would go with those, you can talk them down, their profit margin is pretty good. My current china supplier, gives me those blackstars for 119 shipped a light is the lowest I got with bulk shipping. For those chrome (apollo 4), my supplier gives me a price for 205 shipped for the apollo 6s. Both suppliers with my preferred lens and spectrum. Item gets to me within a 5 business days. If curious, the spectrum I use is 12:3:3:20:38:4:, (6000k : Blue 460nm : Purple 430nm : Red 630 : Deep Red 660nm : Violet 730nm)

Both lights are great for your area though. I do dwc sog 27 gal tote, usually 12 plant to 25" x 17". I used 2 china blackstars in that area with good results. I use 3 china blackstars a tote and get comparable results to my 600w hps grows.

Hoped that helped.

If you're willing to pay $320 for a BS with a 1 year standard warranty, then you have to look at a Area51-60 for $295 with a 3 year standard/limited lifetime warranty. Actually it's a no brainer IMHO. Check em out.

Concur...or Hans panel seems nice too.

I'd give rep but it says I need to spread it around. :)

light house has been known to make good LED grow lights. Chrome has 3w bulbs and the leds are on angles so the cover more area.
