No problem mate.
You are asking questions on here which is a sign you want to do the best you can for your plants.
Best thing you can do is listen to the advice of others on here, and if you do cock up, try and learn from it.
My first grow was a total car crash of new grower mistakes - heat problems, over watering, nute burn, fungus gnats...the best advice i got was that a plant will grow fine without you prodding it every 5 minutes. It's hard for a first grow but let your plants grow themselves if you can.
As mentioned above, the Poundland nutes did a very decent job for me and for £1 a go they are a lot cheaper than the big brands if you only have a couple of plants growing.

thanks mate . just want to get them rite so I can flip them .and get some bud. I don't smoke it myself anymore. but am now growing for medicinal purpose as I have rhumatiod arthritis got 4 plants on . white widow. .I also have some white widow bubblegum. white widow x bb.. .and some money maker seeds but not germ them yet if this grow goes OK . I'll get more on . I am over tentive. my main problem has been heat. it sits at 80f as long as I leave the zip undone at the top a bit .. 400 watt hps I think is to much in my little tent. I have 2 osolating fans in there ... I have bought a bigger tent 1.2mtr x1.2mtr.x2mtr for when I flip them . that has a 600 watt hps bigger extraction fan and filter. .. so yes learnt from a lot of mistakes and will lower the light wattage in the smaller tent for next veg. might even build my own cfl light unit for it ... thank you so much for your input

It would seem less variables next time to just use perl/coco. Seedlings/new cuts can be watered every 2 days minimum. Once put into a big pot they can go 5 days between first/second feed. Then bring them down to 3 days and keep checking pot weight to see if it's frequent enough. In the pots you have there it would likely be every 2 days, once established.

400w is ok for 3x3, people use 600W in that space, but 2f is too far away, try 18 inch and check the foot print is ok, might be to get lower. With a cheap open hood you can open it out to get light lower and maintain a good footprint. Your leaves look like they may be getting just a little too much N but that could be because the light is not close enough. Would also explain why the lowest leaves died off. But some strains just have darker leaves, hps if I recall can do it too, but that said 2f is still too far imo.

That seems odd but you've obviously tried it to know. Would you think it's due to the small tent reflection/canopy airflow, maybe strain?. I say this because you can hang open 600hps at 18'' with little issue, down to 16" is pushing it but would have thought a 400 could manege that.

Are you using open hood?.

yes it's an open hood . I have a 9 inch osolating fan aimed between the plants and light and a 6 inch one in the corner above the plants I am waiting on a cool tube arriving. I'm growing white widow

If you aim the fan angled up toward the bulb it should be blowing hot air off the canopy and into the roof area but if the tent/out take is small I guess it circulates back down?. I assume you are living in a warmer country to require a cool tube on a 400 right now, also assuming the ballast is not in the tent and your out take is adequate. Do you measure ambient or canopy temp?.

Not trying to be a dick just trying to figure out why you need to have the 400 so far away.

I'm in the UK lol not warm. yes I measure temp top and bottom 84.9f at the top 80 at the bottom ..it's the tent being so small I think at 3ftx3ftx5ft I have had 3 different exhaust at the top even put a rvk 6 inch in .. if I leave the door unzipped at the top it stays at 80f soon as I zip it up fully it hits 85..90 f plants lol good now . just get the odd yellow leave's at the very bottom . I have lowered the light today by half a ft so now only 1ft to 1.5ft above plants . just swopped them to 3 gall on pots . another week in veg and flipping

Ah right, sounds like you may not be getting good enough intake. Does the tent have bottom vents you can open for passive intake?. You want to be dragging in cold air from the bottom and sucking it out through the top vent hole, that will also help suck hot air off the canopy and keep the pot/root area at a cooler temp. Using the door at the top is probably creating some kind of heat vortex.

I assume you run a scrubber and are able to use a window etc for constant fresh cool air?.

yes I have bottom vent open but I have tried everything soon as I zip it up completely it's a heat wave .I'm moving them into the bigger tent In a few days I have a 6inch rvk on the filter and got a 5 inch inline going onto the cool tube .taking no chance's .get the circulating fans set and a night heater in there . should be ok ready for flower

Should work out for you then. You don't run the light cycle over night?.
