Basically i've got 2 plants started, both about 5 inches in height. my area is a small space located underneath my basement steps. It's all lined with aluminum foil as i've read that's good for maximum light reflection. I've hung a bar from above for drop lighting. I've got a fan running about 20 hours a day, lighting about 20 hours a day, watering once daily after (4 hour "no light" period) and my lighting is 2 X 300 watt GE soft white light bulbs. I guess i'm just really trying to find out if my set up is suffice? so far everything seems good, but for all i know i could be doing something majorly wrong??? see attachd pics. thanks!

First lose the foil it creates hot spots and is not good. Off White flat paint is better. Next if your lights are incandescent lose them too! Get some CFLs from Lowes 100w @ 6500k are good for veg or 2700k for flower. Six will give you the same watts but its way more usable light for your plants and 100w CFL bulbs use only 14-15 watts each! Next in soil allways adjust your ph to around 6.2-6.8 or use ph buffered nutes. Water is important so I use Pond Water Clarifier in my tap water to make it safe for the plants. When fertilizing never go over 1/2 strenght till the end of flower and flush when plants look a little over fertilized. I add Botanicare Sweet and GH FloraCal to my nutes to help prevent deficencys. Last dont water till they need it! The best way to tell is to pick pots up after you water and feel how heavy they are. When you pick them up later and they feel light its time to water again. The plants need to dry a little before rewatering for best results. If they droop slightly before you water again it wont hurt but you will know how long they can go before you need to water again. Rememeber its a weed? Good Luck!

i'm not really sure how long i plan on using the currently lights, i guess that's what i'm trying to find out. if what i have is suffice for now, then cool. but when should i plan on upgrading to floros? also, when should i repot my current plants? i've read a ton of conflicting repotting techniques. what is a good rule of thumb. i've only been growing these two for about 2 weeks.

Also, with my current 2 x 300 watt lights, they seem pretty hot. how much space should i allowing between the bottom of the light and the top of the plant?

I would switch to floros asap. No heat issues and you can keep them just a couple inches above the plants. That's a pretty small area you have to be working with.
