Help! Plant has yellow discoloration and brown spots

So is the cola more potent because the plants hormones allow it to be more potent compared to lower branches? Or is it because its closer to the light source than the lower branches?

If it's the first case (that relative potency is a function of hormones) then it absolutely makes sense that topping will increase overall yield. You have more branches programmed as "main colas" now.

If it's the second case (that the cola is more potent because it's closer to the light) then it absolutely makes sense that topping will increase overall yield. You now have more colas closer to the light.

"Why doesn't it make sense" - For the reasons I just explained. The logic that the cola is the most potent part of the plant, therefore cutting the tip of the plant off means you lose thc would ONLY make sense if you are cutting off the cola once it starts to develop. And in that case I agree with you, cutting off partially formed bud would not only make you lose that bud but would stress the plant and cause energy to go from making new bud to repairing itself. But if the topping is done in the vegetative state and the plant it allowed to recover and become healthy then I don't see how it makes sense that its detrimental to the bud.

The upper-most growing tip of an unpruned marijuana plant will always be more potent that the top buds of a pruned plant grown in similar conditions. Pruning the tallest branches ensures that the lower branches grow upwards, forming a larger surface area for the light to cover. Although it may be better developed, a pruned marijuana plant does not always produce more buds than an unpruned plant. Another good reason for pruning is to take cuttings from a strong growing, favorite plant for further hydroponic development. Marijuana growers often prune their plants in an attempt to limit their height and prevent unwanted detection. An alternative to pruning for developing growth, is to bend the tops of the branches over and tie the growing tips down with string or wire. Remember that by pruning a growing tip, you are removing the most potent part of the plant, thereby spoiling it's chance of reaching full maturity. I don't let what he says bother me. I've had people say worse. The fact he would use my injury as ammo for his little "hatefest" tells me the kind of person he is and it just makes me have pity for his sorry ass.:sad:

By the way, yesterday, friend of a friend had yellow leaves from bottom up, doubled the nute strength from quarter strength to half... and doubled the water... grew like 20% over night
