help, rootbound?!

I have always used the finger in the dirt method for watering, so when i wasn't able to easily get my finger through the soil anymore from concentrated roots i got concerned. should i be, and if so what do i do? well obviousely, repot. But what should i put them in, what size will get them through the entire rest of the grow? they are now in 3 gallon pots.

I've notice something too. there are 3 different levels of compact. one is so much compacted, and the hairs are VERY thin, looks like alot of them are dead. second is medium compacted, and it has hairs that are short, but fat, with a few dead. the third is soft and not compact, and the hairs are fat and real long and still alive. are they being choked to early harvest? the worst one has less than 1/4 oz. dried, i'm sure.anyone knows final pot size pleeeeaase!

When they start yellow out for no other reason, then i would think rootbound, how tall are they? 3 gals should be fine.

they vegged till they were bout 2 feet tall, maybe more. flowering since dec 22, and are about 3 feet now.

oh, crap, you will probobly want to transplant into a 5 gallon pot... maybe more, and soon.

So your pots are probably too small, on day 30 of flowering there's no need to transplant because the plant won't take to the new pot. She's concentrating on growing flowers now, so don't interrupt her.

why would she not be able to grow flowers and start filling up a new pot.
what is the damage? shock? what affect on the buds? won't she just take longer to mature. Will taking a few days off "work" to recover/adjust realy HURT her. Cuz if it's just another delay, I can wait longer.
she is at her max as far as her roots go.

Well, ask yourself one question, do you want roots, or buds?

Because in fllowering all the plants energy is going into producing flowers and NOT in producing roots, root growth and development slows in the flowering phase.

I want buds! I do, I do!
I just remembered reading something here that I think rollitup wrote that gave the descripton of why the roots are so important, and once they don't have space to go anywhere else (rootbound) it hinders the root systems' ability to continue to bring nutrients to the plant, which I would think would decrease the yeild and potency.
Anybody?
I need some help please. I am getting conflicting info, maybe I read it wrong. They have been just amazing so far and I don't want to do the wrong thing. I realy appreciate all the responses so far! Thank you!

dudes right the plant is concentrating on bud growth the roots grow mainly in veg...the only thing u should worry about is feeding when the ball is thick they use more water and more nutes twice as fast especially n they will turn yellow fast..just wtare alot with little nutes instead of alittle with alot of nutes.maybe this will help and ohh yea 3 gallon pot should hold plenty of plant matter to easily get u through flowering..anyways ;late ar1

Im having kinda the same dilemma, pot's way to small and im about 3 weeks into flowering...dunno what i should do.. did russor say yellowing leaves? that's what im getting but i dont want to stunt my lady in the middle of flowering, yet i don't want all the leaves to yellow up and die...

She was sprouted in late August, early September. She' pretty maxed out in that pot, I realy mean maxed out! Your pot size guide you told me on my grow journal says she is supposed to be in a 10 gallon pot, or at least real close to that. We're talking about 3 gallons here.

Well I assumed it would be on the usual 12 week cycle from sprouting and forgot you used fairly small cfl's in the early stages and that's the reason it's taken you so long to get it into flower. However, the pot guide I gave you is based on normal rates of growth, yours wasn't normal it was much slower than normal, hence the plant and roots have not developed as large or as quickly as a plant would in normal growth, hence a 3 gallon pot should still be fine.

You've only got 4 or 5 weeks of flowering left, if you repot now that could add another 2 weeks or so to your flowering as the plant adjusts to it's new home and resumes flower growth.

My advice is to stick with what you have and monitor it carefully regarding water and nutrient feeds and watch carefully for any signs of stress or stunted growth. If the plant continues to grow and form buds and flowers etc, I'd leave it as it is.

You are right about the cfls, and I think you are right about my plants, they will make it to harvest in what they are in. I may have forgot to mention that the plant I am nervouse mostly about is a plant that we have been having at our house, after living the entire rest of its life under a 400w hps light. It is my father in laws. They didn't have as good of a set-up as us, so they wanted to see if the cold was affecting them, and it sure as hell is! The one he brought over can't even be touched without getting stuck to it (resin). The ones still in his cold garage are very nice looking with nice tall colas, but have no sticky. So he only has one out of 5 plants of his that will even be worth smoking. I want to help him get the most yeild as possible out of the one plant that we had room for over here.
