I'm in the process of writing a book for my son. He is 5 months old right now, so I know he won't understand any of this until years down the road, but I figured I'd write it while I was feeling inspired. I'm just disappointed with a lot of the children's books that are out right now and decided to write my own.

I'm working on a big of an adaptation of Voltaire. I'm sure his mom will roll her eyes at me, but I think it is a worthwhile endeavor. I've childed it as much as I could in one sitting, but I'm hoping someone that is more talented than I could help me child it a bit more. Here is the bit I've got so far:

The tiny man, a follower of Saint Thomas Aquinas, knew the secret. He looked the two giant alien visitors in their eyes and said, “These worlds, their suns and their stars were created for the use and enjoyment of mankind.” Upon hearing this, the two visitors fell to the ground laughing. According to Homer, this laughter is shared with the gods.

Criticism is welcomed as well, but please try to be helpful. Thank you.

Also, does anyone have any other suggestions of books etc that should be adapted for children?

I am planning on adding more narrative to it to make it more interesting for kids. I know this is very dry right now. Here is a little more of what I have.

Nearly four hundred years ago, a man said, “The sun may not go around the earth, but our earth is surely a special planet”, but Galileo Galilei, through his telescope, was able to see the moon much better than the man. Galileo explained to the man that “the moon does not have a smooth and shiny surface” and other planets might also look like the earth. The moon and other planets are just as special as the earth. Many have mountains, ice, clouds and Saturn even wears beautiful rings. After hundreds of years of discussion, everyone agreed that earth was not a special planet. The other planets may be very different from earth, there may not be anyone living on those planets, but the earth is not a special planet after all.

The man said, “Well, earth may not be special, but it is at the center of the universe”, A wise man explained to him, “Sir, our sun is a small star in a group of many called the Milky Way galaxy. Our sun is not very bright compared to the many other stars in our galaxy and it sits on the edge of the Milky Way far from the center.

The man argued, “Well, our Milky Way galaxy is the only galaxy, so that means our galaxy is special.” Edwin Hubble politely informed the man that our galaxy is only one galaxy among very many other galaxies; billions of galaxies. Our Milky Way is neither bigger, brighter, shaped differently, nor is it in the center of others. There are more galaxies in the universe than there are stars that we can see at night. Every galaxy has perhaps one hundred billion stars.

Immanuel Kant once said, “without man the universe would be only a wilderness; a useless thing”. Immanuel was very wrong. Humans do not make this universe special. Humans are very small and unimportant. Humans are not the main actor in this cosmic performance. Maybe someone else is. Maybe no one else is. Right now, we humans are only watching the play from the audience. “We humans have good reason for humility.”

Write, write and write some more! Some day your son will feel blessed you took the time and love to do this. As you write, you may want to pull out little gems (poems, picture books, chap books) from time to time as they apply to his development and understanding.
