Well duh you have gnats with horse manure mayne! Hahaha, no worries though. Put down a layer of BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) on the soil, and that generation of gnats will be the last. My local gardening store sells it.

i'm not sure what bt is, but i thought i'd say that you can also use some nice clean sand to do the same thing.. the sand creates a layer between your soil and the air that the bugs can't penetrate..
you can also try and keep your soil on the dryer side of things as the moisture is what is attracting the bugs.. i've also heard that hanging those fly strips work well too.. someone else also just mentioned placing slices of potato's on the top of your soil to attract the bug's, you just need to toss out the slices every day or so and replace them with clean ones.. i did a lil research on the potato's one online after raeding the post, and it does in fact seem like a common cure for fungus gnats..

I just got over a really bad infestation. Obviously you not only have to kill them you've got to stop the little bastards breeding. They lay eggs in the top of the soil/cube, these hatch into tiny white, black headed worms/maggots. These worms eat small roots and can seriously damage small plants and kill seedlings. Fungus gnats, surprise, surprise, also love fungus, decaying leaves and dampness. So first clean up. Cover the surface, on soil you could use clean sand. I sprayed with goGnats and water, put down Sticky Stik strips and hung pull out Fly Catcher strips. Everything I used worked, but none, on their own, was good enough. It took me about 3 weeks to get rid of 99%.
