High elevation strains?

I am going to grow 5-6 plants at a ranch a few hours away.

The ranch is at about 2750 meters, (over 9,000 foot altitude) the temps are cool to cold at night and can get quite mild/almost warm during the day. Sometimes there are light frosts at night.. .i would say once every 25 days or so....

Anybody have any suggestions for strains that do well in high altitude environment. I think sativas are more suited for this type of environment...

Im sure I can greenhouse it if the environment is too harsh.

But there are trees, pines, eucalyptus trees and plenty of wildflowers....

What do you guys think?

Greenhouse would be good but you'd be surprised how well cannabis can do.. I've grown @ 9-10 k feet elevation and have had even sativas like blue dream handle low 20s during the night just fine with lots of compost and hay mulch to keep them warm. Any pck cross or pck itself will do very well! Good luck!

this thread kind of died without me giving any updates.

Here's the update - I went ahead and grew my indicas but I did not like the results.... I think the soil I planted in is too sandy and did not hold nutrients/water too well..... plants didn't even reach my waist and I didn't do any sort of training/tying down.... I know indicas are smaller but not that small. The very first plant I grew ever was bigger than those outdoor indicas... so I effed up...

Then I went ahead and contacted a bunch of people within the industry here and they told me straight up - get some high altitude sativas - they do fine outside and if you have good soil you won't even have to pay too much attention as there is plenty of rain.... so I did just that...bought myself 3 clones already established in small pots... but instead of planting in the same soil I ordered some 'black soil' as they call it here - and the plants got big. like 8 feet high big...... I had never seen MJ plants that big in person til then..... but the high altitude sativas they raved about are actually more like hemp plants. i mean it gets you high, barely....but there are no real shiny trichomes like you see in some plants that look frosted over... plenty of volume and quantity - but the quality was lacking very much.....

I'm building a small green house and going full registered medical cannabis grower.... that keeps the cops away when they see a green house pop up with some MJ trees inside....

I'm not posting pics because - yeah.... but that's where I'm at..... 1 year later.... cheers!

cool thread. i'm at 8800 ft. do indoors only. i think indica or indica dominant do best for me. sativas seem very finicky.

any strains that you know are for high altitude?

i wish they had feminized, but check out la plata labs. they are here in colorado and somewhere around 7500 ft.
