The way the berner mythology goes according to pad is the roughly 50% of the country's eligible voters who don't vote are only doing so because Democrats don't run far enough to the left. Sanders would have won the general election if only Democrats had voted for him because red necks are thirsting for socially progressive programs. Oh, and the primary was rigged. That's why only 13 million Democrats and Independents voted for Sanders and 16 million Democrats and Independents voted for Clinton.
